No, a significant portion of them are CINOs and still want to get invited to the best progressive parties, so are enthralled to the "lose with honor" and to be a "loyal opposition". Emphasis on "lose" and "loyal".

For instance, if Jimmah Kimmel had mocked Michelle Obama, he would have had to commit seppuku on live TV. His second would be the person taking over the show, and yes, a beheading would have been in order.

I doubt he gets any significant blow back from, well, anyone.

Depends on how serious the "long run" is. They have nearly all the privately-held guns... most, perhaps, would not be used in serious action. Nobody ever thinks horrible things could happen to them, but horrible things are what you get when you vote the treasury for yourself.

No. Conservatism is contrary to basic human nature. Instead it is a learned response when basic human nature has horrible outcomes. I.e. people are only as conservative as the universe forces them to be.

Sadly, you've nailed how our politicians think. "We can't be broke, we still have checks left!"

This is why there should always be limits on how government can raise money and shepherd fiscal policy.

Venezuela is only the latest example of the result of that kind of fiscal mismanagement. However, Venezuela is a borderline Third World country. Weimar Germany showed that what can happen when that kind of thinking pervades an advanced industrial economy.
