Japanese woman Nabi Tajima, who is the last surviving child of the 19th century, has become the 3rd oldest person in recorded human history, researchers said on Tuesday as she reached 117 years and 248 days.
That picture of her says it all-god save me from the "honor" of "living" that long! Ive got a great-aunt in her 80s, with Alzheimer's. She was pretty lucid while my mom visited last week, said "Why do we try so hard to stay healthy to end up here?" Why indeed. Diabetes is not the way to go, though, so I'm still not going to eat carbs.
Side note: Im a 5' 10" size 8 now, at 40, after 4 kids, and I get no exercise outside of my daily running around at work and chasing kids. I eat as much bacon, cheese, eggs, shrimp, brisket, etc etc as I want. And mmmmm the veggies!! My bloodwork is immaculate, to quote my IM. Thank you, Amy, for preaching low-carb. After the last kid and before I made the switch, I was a sz 16.

Meanwhile FedGov is eyeball deep in debt and deficits as far as the eye can see, but real trouble lurks closer to home in local government's choice to underfund (or over promise) their pensions.
You’d be mistaken to think Harvey, Illinois has a unique pension crisis. It may be the first, and its problems may be the most severe, but the reality is the mess is everywhere, from East St. Louis to Rockford and from Quincy to Danville. A review of Illinois Department of Insurance pension data shows that Harvey could be just the start of a flood of garnishments across the state
...
Two-thirds of Illinois’ 355 police pension funds failed to receive their full required contribution in 2016. And 60 percent of Illinois’ 296 firefighter pension funds suffered the same fate.
If those same numbers continue to hold true, all those cities face the risk of having their revenues intercepted by the comptroller.

Don't forget all those National Guardsmen who balked at going to Iraq because they only signed up for drill once weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. No one told them they would be part of the real Army.

Perhaps they need to start winning elections instead of whining about losing them.

I see two ways out of the pension problem,
1. Require anyone receiving a pension form a municipality must live within that municipality.
it is completely immoral to expect people not party to pension negotiations, many not even born at the time to pay for them in increase property taxes when those receiving the money can move to areas where they wont have to pay increased taxes
2. Unincorporat the city. Once the city no longer exitst it can no longer be required to pay for jack shit
Let me be clear I have no sympathy for people on public pensions.
They had their unions negotiate with person B to make person A foot the bill, and in return for increase revenue from person A the unions agreed to give some of it to person B as a kickback
You dont get to bitch now that person A's kids want to tell you to fuck off now that they are the ones paying a bill they never agreed to
You allowed others to makes deals on your behalf that neither of them had to pay for. You fucked over people who had no say, you dont get to complain now that they are paying attention and are pissed and looking to stop getting financially raped by you
The best part of public pensions happens when they run out money, they ask the government for help; and that help arrives in the form of a 3rd-party audit.
Then, you watch the drama unfold when the union leaders move heaven and hell to prevent such audit from either happening or the results to be available to the public, specially to the rest of the union members.
The supermarket giant said it would be selling chicken in straight-to-pan plastic pouches after a survey revealed that many shoppers under the age of 35 were afraid to touch raw meat.
