While I don't know whether an easier life would have helped reduce the likelihood of his dying from an embolism at age 60, I think most people WOULD prefer a longer life than that - and would envy those who manage to avoid those factors that shorten one's life. But, sadly, many people think they have an obligation to have children when they don't, so they knock themselves out at their jobs so they can follow the herd - and die early.
