You made need to be on Facebook to see this video.
What I found most disturbing about this wasn't the conduct of the horrible child (which was disturbing enough), but the moronic comments made by adults in response to this video.
"He's going to be charged with assault on a minor!"
No, he isn't. The laws that allow us to defend ourselves against assault are not suspended when you're dealing with a minor. When a child is punching you, yes, you do have the right to use the amount of force appropriate to the threat in your own defense.
I expected the idiot child to scream child abuse. I wasn't expecting the same kind of idiotic response from grown-ups who should know better.
It makes me think that adults need a course in law. Not to become full-fledged lawyers (although that's an option), but some basic working knowledge that everyone should have.
Do you really think you have no right to defend yourself against a child who's assaulting you? That children are just magically given the right to commit acts of battery without response? Then go back home and live with your mommy. You're too stupid to navigate the world as an independent and there's no hope you will ever be ready to.
(As a matter of fact, the adult used more restraint than the law would have required of him.)
Some have speculated that the child is abused at home. I suspect more that he's underparented; his parents (if both are in this child's life) simply let him get away with too much.

Looks like the Supreme Court has held that you don't have to decorate the cake.
Patrick, at least one group on Facebook still has the video up, with a text box saying they haven't removed the video from Facebook because it may help rescue the child in question.
I watched that video this morning and my blood boiled. Obviously this child is under-parented and needs serious help. He looks to be about 12-13, and he was willing to go toe to toe with a grown man. He had no fear of repercussions, because has never had any repercussions for his actions. I did laugh when he cried like a baby when they guy finally had enough.
He's damn lucky he wasn't one of mine - that I gave birth to, or that I share a family tree with. His ass beating would have been far worse than what he got.

IRA I think in this context "narrow" refers to the grounds on which the ruling was made, not on the number of justices in the majority
Yesterday this priest, Fr. Fadi Shaloofi, scolded two young men for harassing Christian pilgrim girls at the Nativity Church in Bethlehem -- so they stabbed him.

By defintion all Supreme Court rulings are supposed to be narrow. It is rare for the court to rule on more than one issue in a single case, and in this case the question was the conduct of the Colorado Civil rights commisssion and their hostility to religion, as I understand it.

Unfortunately, when kids behave this badly on purpose, it is not necessarily because of bad parenting. Kids have free will and often abuse it. The parent's duty is to accept that, punish accordingly, not be afraid of being a little too strict if that WORKS, and above all, not take it personally when outsiders complain about their kids' behavior. Such complaints are not necessarily an attack on the parent, so it's wrong to take it that way.

Well, at least the boat is in the water as planned.
"...and in this case the question was the conduct of the Colorado Civil rights commisssion and their hostility to religion, as I understand it."
That's the way I read it too. There's no question that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission was hostile to the baker because of his religion -- some of them explicitly said so, on the record. But yes, this is a narrow ruling in terms of its scope. It didn't address the larger question of whether a custom cake constitutes "speech" under the First Amendment.
(My take: Courts have ruled many times since the 1970s that various types of "performance art" are protected by the First Amendment. In this context, I fail see how the baking of a custom cake doesn't constitute performance art. If it doesn't, then why can't I compel a commercial photographer to photograph a Nazi swastika?)

No Lenona, this is a child who either has serious mental health issues, and if he does, it's probably something that, based on his behavior - IN PUBLIC with other adults around, would need full time adult supervision = under-parented. Or he's a child who has been allowed to behave that way unchecked for a very long time = under-parented. That child went toe-to-toe with a grown man. A child who has been parented, even with free will, would not stand up to, much less start punching a grown man because the child would know that there would be consequences when he got home.
Also, if you watched the video, this looks to be a small community. The man got on the phone with someone and asked them to call the kid's mom. My guess is everyone in town knows this kid and knows what an absolute ass he is. I'm sure the mom shrugs and says "what can I do?"

I'd have said 'attempted to intimidate or assault', rather than stand up to.
A well parented child would stand up to an ass of an adult
