Racist College Admissions -- Preferencing One Group Over Another -- Can Seem Benevolent...Until You Look At Who They Hurt
They hurt individuals -- individuals who have worked hard and often sacrificed a great deal, as often have their parents.
Heartbreaking thread on the effects of racist college admissions like Harvard's. They've been doing to Asians what they used to do to Jews. See how it hurt a hardworking girl who is a "person of color"--but the "wrong" color. It's the *individual* who's harmed by racist policies. https://t.co/dngi2SwRKN

So, first we demand that colleges meet certain quotas. Then we punish them for taking the steps necessary for quotas to be met.
You don't actually give any details about this discrimination, but I suspect it's all about the 230 points that blacks receive on their SAT scores, the 185 Hispanics receive and the 50 point penalty the Asians receive.
All three of those groups should sue for racial discrimination. If you need 230 points added to your SAT scores to get into Harvard, you will not be able to keep up. You will bog the class down, and your more intellectually competent classmates will be seething in resentment.
Moreover, it will carry a lifelong tarnish of your achievements. You say, "I went to Harvard," and your colleagues will all be adding silently, "Thanks to the 230 points you got added to your SAT scores, just for being black."
It's not just the Asians who are being penalized. The supposed benefit being black or Hispanic is not ultimately serving them. Everyone suffers, except the whites whose SAT scores are accepted as is.

Harvard doesn't do affirmative action because they are benevolent but because they want a finger in every pie. They want the best black people, the best Asian people, the best White people. They want the best artists, the best mathematicians, the best politicians. They want the influential people in every community to be Harvard people.
So if they already have a bunch of people from one community, other applicants are screwed.
But don't kid yourself, it has nothing to do with wanting to be nice to people in marginalised community and everything to do with wanting to maintain a powerful network.

When liberals discriminate it is okay because their hearts are pure and they want to help for the "greater good."
Therefore actual individuals who are hurt or denied the results of their hard work should just shut up accept that people with less knowledge, skill or ability should take their place without having to work for it.
Liberals know what is best for everyone else. Even if you don't agree with them, they are helping you by trying to ruin, oops I mean run, your and everyone else's life.

Amy, you simply don't get the collectivist mindset. The group matters, not the individual. The individual can be sacrificed on the altar of collectivism without a pang of guilt as long as the sacrifice is "for the people" or "for the state."
The collectivist accepts one person speaking and deciding for the group and expects the group to fall in line behind that person.
So, as long as each group gets its accepted share of the pie, it does not matter if individuals within any group are left behind or shut out.
That is what made the fledgling experiment called the United States so radical, the individual mattered. The Bill of Rights protects not collective rights, but individual rights.
And, as for Harvard, what NicoleK said, they want the best of every group, not the best individuals.

Remember that college admissions officers are all very recent graduates, those primarily who can't find another job. So, they are mostly SJWs.
Our daughter applied to Harvard. Deeply qualified. Not recommended by the SJW who represented her geography, so she was turned down. The admissions director at her high school was so appalled that he took the extraordinary measure of calling the head of admissions to ask that her file be reviewed (IOW, bypass the SJW wall). It was, and she got in. A month ago she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and along the way made a significant contribution to the fight against diabetes, and will continue the fight to cure diseases as a MD/PhD student.
How much will the SJWs' misplaced priorities cost the world?

Let's just say that Social Justice Warriors are the missing piece that solves the Fermi Paradox.

Before anyone discovers Faster Than Light propulsion, they have to deal with the likes of Jessica Valenti and the army of feminist manlets that populate the science and technology journals.

Modest proposal: Every single Asian student who applies to an Ivy this year's admission cycle should declare himself/herself as a Native American. Obviously one can be whatever one "identifies" as according to the SJWs and it has the benefit of being at least somewhat true in Physical Anthropology.

A modest proposal: next admissions cycle every single Asian applicant to an Ivy or highly selective university "identifies" as Native American. Physical Anthropologists looking at skeletal characteristics would find back-up for their claims.

"Before anyone discovers Faster Than Light propulsion,..."
I find that I am not alone in thinking that Elon Musk's SpaceX will build the first starship - because they have the enthusiasm long purged from NASA by decades of government bureaucracy.
There's no better way to cripple a business than to insist it observe political mandates before it acts.
