That shop does good work, but you pay for quality

Eye doc was very good, if any of you are Kaiser Lost Angeles. Also, his nurse was a sweetheart. That was the good part of the appointment.
The wearying part was afterward, figuring out how to get the glasses I wanted and the prescription and lenses I need without the gouging Kaiser offered on frames and all.
Gregg got me the frame at about half price off Amazon. I think I'm going to have it made by UseMyFrame.com. If you call them, ask for Neil and tell him I recommended him. Guy knows his shit. Goes to optometry conferences and asks questions -- which I can't imagine of the woman who "helped" me at Kaiser.
I emphasized that all I would do -- ALL -- with these glasses is sit at the computer and write. She kept trying to sell me a lens option on "durability." Sit at computer, not "play soccer."
Hello, world. Employees like this that you probably hire because you don't have to pay them much are probably costing you money.

I am not sure how you will feel about this suggestion, but the Walmart Vision Center has a pretty good selection of glasses and they are very reasonably priced. If you only need single vision readers, you can get out of there with a Nikon lens for less than $200. The girls that work at my local store are great. They’ve been there for years and can really help you. Bifocals or Progressives get expensive, but that’s just the nature of the beast. For my biofocals, I paid about $350. That included the very best lens. They take insurance, but honestly, my insurance is so crappy it’s easier for me to just pay and their prices are that good. Just a thought.

Huh. I thought they were local.
Went in there when my Nexus 5 was stuck rebooting and rebooting and rebooting.
"Oh. We don't work on those."
(Turns out, it's a serious issue that Nexus 5's have, that can be fixed... if you do something first, and run off of the lower-speed CPUs...)
