"...For today’s mom to admit that her child behaved brutishly, brazenly, or barbarically is for the mother to admit failure. Before psychological theory destroyed American parenting, it was understood that 'every child has a mind of his own' — that every child, no matter how 'good' his parents by any standard, was capable of brutish, brazen, barbaric behavior on any given day. Not any longer. If a child behaves badly, the mother is revealed to be a bad mom. And so, she reacts so as to ward off the implication.

So, they don’t, and it doesn’t, and the principal in question is not transferred to a school in Death Valley...

believing their kids over the teacher who complains about them
I can't say I necessarily blame them. This isn't like when we were younguns and our parents backed the teachers because they were of the opinion that the teachers wanted what was best for the students.
That's about 4th or 5th on the teacher's list of things to do on any given day.

Not the first time guns have been in your classrooms or offices.
Darth, explain, please? We're talking about parents who accuse teachers of outright LYING. Why would the average parents be right in that accusation? (As opposed to, say, parents accusing the teacher of scapegoating their kid when other kids were behaving just as badly.)

I realize hardly anyone will see this, but here are some responses to Rosemond's column on students and teachers (funny thing is, very few publications with his column have comments, even though he's syndicated):
"A gazillion years ago, when I was in third grade, I complained to my mother that Miss Bowen was picking on me, telling the other children not to talk to me, etc. One hot day I came home from school, ran to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of milk and glugged it down. I told my astonished mother that I had asked Miss Bowen if I could get a drink of water, and not only did she say no, she went and got a glassful and drank it down right in front of me. Finally my mother believed me -- and long story short, Miss Bowen was not only fired, but shortly sent off to a mental institution.
Hey everybody, let's go buy a farm in South Africa!
Did I warn you about this months ago? Yes, I did. Is my foresight oracular and almost supernatural? Yes, it is.
Totally kidding. The writing was on the wall... All that's left is the starvation and international aid.

No, no. Don't you get it?
This time they're going to do land confiscation right.
This time it won't devolve into starvation and racial violence.
This time everything will work out and there will be food and fairness for all.

Well, this will certainly help calm that whole angry male-female dialectic that we've got going on.

More on the whole man/woman dynamic. Oh, it doesn't count if the man in question says he's a she.

On today's parents acting more like their kids' lawyers instead (i.e. believing their kids over the teacher who complains about them):
