Louis CK showed up at a club the other night... Looks like he's trying to get back up on the pony.
It would be weird to say "liked" Louis CK, but I liked him. Mostly I liked watching about 5 of his hour-long specials on the computer, where it was easy to skip past the fart jokes etc.
It seemed like he wasn't a naturally funny guy... But he figured out that if you take two dozen dogshit jokes out on the road and humiliate yourself in front of audiences around the nation for an entire year, when it's over you'll have polished the turds into an hour of televised goodness. Well, forty minutes of goodness and twenty minutes of fart jokes that could be skipped over with a remote control.
I can't remember which of the specials it was, maybe around 2012. But if you listen to the rarer recordings of his unscheduled comedy club appearances a year earlier, the barest frameworks of the jokes are in place. I mean barest. He'd say unfunny things, and the audience would not laugh. It was painful to listen to. But he must have been taking notes and following the scent of every chuckle, because a year later he had a TV special worth millions.
It was the same sort of craftsmanship we've had from jazz performers (and others musicians) for a well over a century): You have no idea what works and what doesn't, but you can trust the reactions of the people who come to hear you... Cut a live album on the last night of your tour, or hit the studio the next morning.
I don't know whether CK deserves to have his career back or not. It seems like after punishing himself on the road to make his career happen, he wanted to pass some humiliation & discomfort to other comedians... Or specifically, to comediennes.
It's weird how the #metoo movement, which indisputably took down some guys who deserved it, seems to have merged with —and petered out with— the Cleaner than Caesar's Wife mentality that we now see in the scouring of Twitter histories... And in things like the Daly story Amy linked last week, wherein a guy lost his sports car sponsorship for something shitty his father said before he was born.
(Twitter "trends" presumably lose their flavor quickly, and this one will likely sour by dusk 8/18/18.)

In a nutshell: Before age six or so, academics are far less important than learning to Respect Adults and their authority, whether kids like it or not. (If you were a first-grade teacher, which would you want more - kids who can already read or kids who sit still and listen?)
Also, pre-K programs are a ripoff. As I once said, not verbatim: "Beware, as an individual, of getting anything that costs money; chances are it's a ripoff."

Of course it will be carried out "legally." The law is being changed to allow it and, with that, it will be legal; still immoral, but legal.

All of you still piss your peejays every night over Hillary. You're just not a 'get a grip' kind guy... Grip-getters do the reading, for starters.
