Well, Red Delicious were OK if you were thirsty and out of water. But that's ALL they were good for. Besides, what kid wants to eat any apple that's hard to chew? I don't. I always go for McIntosh or Cortlands if possible.

When picking Red Delicious apples go for the purple -almost black- ones, these are very ripe, maybe a day or two close to spoiling, they have to feel heavier for its size because that means they're juicy instead of dry and spongy.

It pisses me off that Slate switches from Red Dee to Gala six months after I did so in my own personal produce selection... It make me feel tawdry and fashionable instead of thoughtfully sucrose-avoidant.
