Either that's a guy doing textbook negging or that's one bitter feminist.

Has anxiety become an epidemic, or are we kind of overdoing it?
Old RPM Daddy (OldRPMDaddy at GMail dot com) at September 14, 2018 11:24 AM
Anxiety is part of being a teenager. It's been that way for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years. We even have a term for the phenomenon, puberty.

Yeah, but I wonder if we celebrate it more now. Listening to my middle daughter talking about her college, it seemed like some of her schoolmates flaunted their neuroses (and associated medications) like badges of honor. One even insisted her anxiety prevented her from being employable, though it didn't stop her from spending her daddy's money on weed.

That is true IRA. But it is an institutional (government) effect and not a general social thing. A lot of the feminist stuff that comes out of the department of education is based on a stupid study done at Harvard many years ago. It noted that teen girls have a lot of anxiety and other social issues. It said nothing about boys. But it fit the narrative and was used as an excuse to oppress young men. Later on people noted these issues are hardly gender based and are just puberty, but that doesn't support the desired narrative so it is ignored.
Following along with that philosophy people implemented a lot of changes 'intended' to help various other minority groups. But if there is a benefit then people will fake their way into the group. I bet Patrick can confirm that while it is better being GAY in the US today than it was years ago, it still aint that great. But along with that you also have people who fake being gay as well. A pretend gay can put things on or off as is convenient. Real gays cannot. I know of at least one guy who faked (poorly) being gay all through high school. It was a great way to pickup women. You have people pretending to be trans now as the fashion has moved that way.
On specifically the anxiety/mental illness issues, you can get longer test times and other benefits by having a diagnosis. Finding a doctor willing to write one up is actually pretty easy. So want to get an edge on your peers academically (or at least appear to) buy a diagnosis and now you get more time, maybe note, and other benefits on tests. Since you don't actually have the disease you don't have any real downside. After all people get punished for discriminating against you and you don't actually have the mental problems you claim.
In the same vein we are seeing asians self identify as white on college applications.
Where there are benefits people will go after them.
