California on verge of driving out the last of the publicly-owned companies still headquartered in the state.

The bill's author, state senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, argued, "One-fourth of California’s publicly traded companies still do not have a single woman on their board, despite numerous independent studies that show companies with women on their board are more profitable and productive."

More profitable and productive? What studies? Are these studies confusing correlation with causation?

Here's a summary of one such study, from Wellesley: "Based on interviews and discussions with 50 women directors, 12 CEOs, and seven corporate secretaries from Fortune 1000 companies, we show that a critical mass of three or more women can cause a fundamental change in the boardroom and enhance corporate governance."
