People For The Compassionless Treatment Of Recently Dead People's Loved Ones
PETA was quick to salivate over Aretha Franklin's possessions -- namely her furs -- demanding "that the estate of The Queen of Soul donate all the fuzzy garments she collected and wore over her storied life to the needy and the homeless," per a NY Post piece by Andrea Peyser:
"In the past, we've given donated fur coats -- some coming from other wonderful women ... to homeless shelters in the US (including in Detroit) and to displaced refugees in Afghanistan, Mongolia and Syria," Tracy Reiman, PETA's executive vice president, wrote in a letter last week to Franklin's niece Sabrina Garret Owens. She asked that the furs be used as clothing for homeless people and as bedding for poor animals, which I find kind of creepy. And being that it's PETA, there was a celebrity tie-in: Reiman mentioned that such garments that once belonged to Anjelica Huston, Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall, Mary Tyler Moore and Sharon Osbourne have been donated.
"Please let us know if there's anything that we can do to help you and your family through this difficult time," Reiman concluded.
No reply from Franklin's loved one(s) to the smarmy missive.

My mom has a full-length mink that will be mine someday. I wear it when I walk the dogs when we're visiting in winter. I'm fabulous in it, darling. It's the warmest thing ever.
I wouldn't buy for, but hey, no need to waste it!

This is obviously another publicity stunt by PETA. They've been harassing Aretha Franklin for a while about her furs and want to use her death as a last chance to promote themselves using her name.
Fact is, PETA is a scam verging on a criminal organization. They're consistently rated as one of the least effective non-profits ( in terms of budget allocation ) and have a horrible record of fraud and mismanagement.
After they were caught lying about their kill policies ( their contractors kill any animal in their possession ), they turned on the shelter community accusing them of abusing animals. This finally led credible animal welfare groups to distance themselves from PETA. This is why you haven't heard much from them for a few years.

His Bill Maher distanced himself from them too?

If that's correct, has Bill Maher distanced himself from them too?

I don't know Lenona, why don't you ask him?

I thought they would rather go naked than wear fur?

PETA is a loony organization, that's for sure. They seem especially shameless, even for a loony activist organization, and this is a perfect example. It's grossly inappropriate to insert yourself into the affairs of the recently-deceased's family, but given that, this "suggestion" is so, so, aarrghh! Looney, illogical, weird... What the frack are homeless people supposed to do with a 20,000 fur coat?? Get murdered by a robber? Ruin it with one night sleeping in an alley? The obvious choice, if the family so desired, would be to auction them off and give the money to a cause such as animal shelters.

"It's grossly inappropriate to insert yourself into the affairs of the recently-deceased's family"
Reminds me of the Mormons "converting" deceased Jews in the cemetery, sans invitation or interest, or Bill Clinton ogling Ariana Grande at Aretha's funeral.
Some people just don't care WHERE they are.

What I meant was, has he VISIBLY distanced himself in ways that needed no words to prove it?
