Toddlers As Supposed Bloody Fodder Of Trump Voters
I am dismayed daily that Trump is President and glad for every hour I don't reflect on who's in the Oval Office.
However, I think it's pernicious -- toxic for all of us -- when people decide that every bad act comes out of their assuming that somebody is politically "on the other team." I think it's particularly ugly the way it's suddenly become chic to demonize people because they're white.
As for the particular subject of this post, Gabriel Sherman, according to his Twitter profile, is a "Vanity Fair special correspondent. NBC News/MSNBC contributor..."
This is really rotten, but how does he know what's going on in the minds of others? Is it possible they're just rotten people, and that this is unrelated to who's President?
Trump's America is a vicious and divided place. Today, a 60-something man walked into my 15-month old daughter, knocking to her to the ground with a bloody nose. 1/

When I rushed over and picked her up, he casually walked away as my daughter wailed. I said, Sir excuse me how about an apology? And then his nasty rich wife said well how about you apologize to us? 2/

Trump has allowed people -- especially rich white people -- to exhibit the worst kind of victimhood and lack of empathy

And do we even believe this story? What 60-something adult man knocks down a toddler, making her cry and giving her a bloody nose, and says nothing?

Gabe’s getting slammed on twitter

Looking like I am going to get six more years of joy because Hillary isn’t president.

I can feel the heat of that burn from here....

'Cos he just, like, totally knows it to be true. There's a word for what he's expressing: Bigotry.

How does the writer know the toddler-knocker-over's wife is rich?
NicoleK at October 15, 2018 5:49 AM
Mmm. The Trump stupidity aside, wandering toddlers are heat-seaking missiles for adult legs. You could put a toddler and an adult in an empty football field and the toddler would run into the adult half the time.
If Gabe Sherman had to "rush over" to a 15-month-old, what was she doing out of his immediate orbit in the first place?
Kevin at October 15, 2018 7:20 AM
NicoleK, I agree the writer is making dumb assumptions about "Trump's America."
But while even the richest people will often complain "I don't FEEL rich because of x, y, z," I'd guess that the wife (if they WERE married) was dressed pretty expensively.
lenona at October 15, 2018 7:22 AM
Oh, and good points, Kevin.

Buried Lede: He brought a child into this world during the Trump years
. Good God! what was he thinking.

And do we even believe this story?
About as much as "I was talking to my 8 year old non-gender specific offspring when they brought up the finer points of nuclear weapons policy and how Trump is going to get us all dead" stories.
Much more likely: it didn't happen. Or his daemon spawn ran into the fellow, and he actually did try to help her out, only to be accused of perfidy by daddy-dearest because hw was wearing a MAGA hat.

I've known poor people who dressed expensively.

"I am dismayed daily that Trump is President and glad for every hour I don't reflect on who's in the Oval Office."
And you can congratulate yourself when you don't reflect on the Kavanaugh kerfluffle, having voted for the enabler of serial offender Bill Clinton.
Or you could just forget who you voted for, or the candidate's record. That's what most of the public seems to do.
Radwaste at October 15, 2018 8:57 AM
Hillary wasn't just an enabler. She lead the "bimbo eruptions" squad, slandering and libeling his accusers in the worst terms possible.
Does anyone remember them dredging up the man who hired Monica Lewinsky to baby sit his kid(s)? who claimed she came on to him, they did the dirty, and strangely no one investigated his admission to statutory rape?

I've known poor people who dressed expensively.
There's something to be said for a shrewd woman who knows how to put her clothing together as a complete ensemble, even if she's shopping at Goodwill. As our lovely hostess does on occasion.
That's a good skill to have.

So has he posted a copy of his police complaint yet?
lujlp at October 15, 2018 10:03 AM
We have to admit that Trump has magical powers that he mind controlled an old man to run down toddlers. Manchurian Candidate much?
The toddler probably fell down on his own and the writer blamed the old guy. Who lets go of the hand of a 15 month-old in a crowd?

A warning to my fellow Jews. This is where antisemitism comes from.
First note that Mr. Sherman is Jewish, not White.
Second note how much Mr. Sherman hates White people. His tweet generalizes from one white person to all "rich white people" (assuming this incident happend at all). I think he blames Trump becasue he understands that Trump is the most pro-white president we have had in a while.
Mr. Sherman displays a type of anti-white hatred that I see all the time in the Jewish community. I don't know why so many Jews hate White people but they do. Also note that even though Sherman hates White people he still lives around them. One wonders if he would be more comfortable in Israel away from all of these awful Goyim.
Most of the antisemitism today is a reaction to the anti-white hated displayed by the Sherman types as well as to the hypocrasy many Jews display on immigration (open boarders for America and closed borders for Israel).

Amy, Trump's not only living in your head rent-free, but he's wrecking the furniture. Given how decent a person you are, I would not exactly call that "winning."
mpetrie98 at October 15, 2018 1:41 PM
Trump has already been blamed for recent hurricanes. Being blamed for mind controlling people into knocking over toddlers seems much milder.
Ben at October 15, 2018 5:07 PM
He took (assuming he wasn't lying) an assault on his child and turned it into an attack on everyone that voted for Trump because...? The guy wasn't Trump, wasn't wearing a Trump hat, didn't mention Trump, but he's bad and therefore a Trump supporter.

A chance encounter with one rude person is an indictment of "Trump's America."
If Obama were president and this couple bumped into his kid, what larger social phenomenon would he blame then?
And who gets the credit in for the thousand acts of kindness going on daily in "Trump's America?"
I've got a friend deployed with the Florida National Guard in the Panhandle, cleaning up after Michael, and he posts on Facebook the things he encounters - neighbors helping neighbors, people giving help and support to strangers, and people who travelled a long distance to help. Are these not also "Trump's America?"
