Yes, since it is considered income. Now, if their receipts were set up as gifts, then each individual supporter could send gifts to their thot of choice, up to some limit. Last I looked that was about $14,000 before one incurs a gift tax.

Tolkien:
Christopher took it upon himself to edit that book, which was published in 1977 as The Silmarillion. He then turned to another project drawn from his father’s papers, then another—ultimately publishing poetry, academic works, fiction, and a 12-volume history of the creation of Middle-earth. The Fall of Gondolin, published in August, is the 25th posthumous book Christopher Tolkien has produced from his father’s archives.
Now, after more than 40 years, at the age of 94, Christopher Tolkien has laid down his editor’s pen, having completed a great labor of quiet, scholastic commitment to his father’s vision. It is the concluding public act of a gentleman and scholar, the last member of a club that became a pivotal part of 20th-century literature: the Inklings. It is the end of an era.
Let's say a person's comprehension of political intercourse and the larger social dialectic was trite and anemic.
And let's imagine that this went on for years and years.
Would the person ever realize that they'd been had? That there was only cheapjack manipulation of their naive resentments in the venues they imagined to be daring and original?... That there was never any endgame of any kind, because the whole point was to pander and exploit?
For the love of God... Could any enterprise on the surface of this globe better be described as "mainstream media" than Fox television?

Describing anything as "mainstream" or "lame stream" or "corporate" is a way of signaling that you're too cool for school; that you are one of the select few who are hip to the alternative.
Witness the '80s "alternative" music genre and college radio, born of rebellion against "corporate" radio and music. Some of it was very good. Much of it was, in reality, indistinguishable from the very "corporate" sound it eagerly disdained.
So, from where are these folks who eschew "mainstream media" getting their news? From the rumor mill, from conspiracy theorists, from haphazard unverified and un-vetted sources - or from similarly-biased mainstream sources.
Professional journalism may have been biased in ways we didn't always like, but it had guardrails governing the publication of stories. The destruction of those guardrails has harmed society in many ways, has helped to polarize us, and has even sped the destruction of the very institutions the "new media" should have helped to re-energize, namely the "mainstream media."
The easily-refuted Rather/Mapes attempt to stay relevant, scoop the "new media" competition, and tarnish George W. Bush using falsified documents in the 2004 election and Hollywood's 2015 attempt to deflect blame for the forgery away from the "mainstream media" hastened the destruction of the credibility of that same "mainstream media" in ways for which we are paying the price today in partisanship and cynicism.

Yes Fox is mainstream media. But Snoopy linked to Breitbart and not Fox. I'd still put them outside of the mainstream. But I can accept that I'm out of touch on this.
And yep Conan. The mainstream news sources blatantly and repeatedly spread false information. So it is time for people to look elsewhere for a reliable news source. No one has really filled that void yet. And once they do they will become the new mainstream.
As for the alternatives you listed (rumor mill, conspiracy theorists) traditional news sources have shown they aren't much better. It is unfortunate but professional journalists and journalism schools chose to do away with those guardrails that gave them greater accuracy and the respect that came with it.
