Here's a couple of great pieces about Elon Musk!
Tesla[,/]Solar City, Boring, Space-X... A lot on his plate... Let's be clear, any number of these things could collapse, and as a consequence, who cares? The assets would be liquidated. That's how these things work.

Also, that guy with the David Bowie song is way out there.
Also, Musk did a podcast with Kara Swisher a couple of days ago and slapped her around a little bit.
I love that... She's one of the most clumsy and obnoxious figures in media, and I've never understood why people regard her highly.

So, cases of measles are spiking in Europe. In 2016, 5,273 cases; in 2017, 23,927 cases; and in 2018, more than 41,000 cases reported. Part of the increase is due to the fighting in the Ukraine, but France, Greece, Russia, and Italy are also reporting increases.
Measles can be prevented with "a vaccine that’s been in use since the 1960s, but health officials say vaccination rates of at least 95 percent are needed to prevent epidemics." [emphasis mine] I guess Europe is slipping below that rate. Are we following them down this road?
This is what happens when you let the argument speak or itself and don't check the credentials of the person putting forth the argument. You get nude models promoting junk science.
People making an argument from the point of expertise, without a demonstrated expertise or body of knowledge in that field, deserve - nay, require - that their claims of expertise be checked. Right, Artie?

I had heard, a long time ago, that the teens were next due in court on Nov. 2, but it looks as though that reporter was mistaken. (That is, I couldn't find any articles that were written post-Oct. 29th.)
"Teens plead guilty in rock-throwing death on I-75"
https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2018/10/29/teens-plead-guilty-overpass-rock-death/1804600002/
By Meira Gebel, Detroit Free Press
Four teenagers accused of throwing a rock on I-75 that killed a man in 2017 each pleaded guilty on Friday after accepting a plea deal this past summer.
Kyle Anger pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Genesee County court, and admitted to the deadly rock throwing, while Trevor Gray, Mikadyn Payne and Mark Sekelski pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Alexzander Miller, the fifth teenager involved, did not appear in court on Friday.
Anger's plea came with a request that the 18-year-old be sentenced under manslaughter guidelines, which carry up to 15 years in prison. Second-degree murder carries up to life in prison.
The teens admitted they had been throwing multiple rocks off of the Dodge Road overpass in Vienna Township onto the southbound lanes of I-75.
Kenneth White, 32, of Mt. Morris was killed when a 6-pound rock, thrown by Anger, crashed through the windshield of a van he was riding in. The rock fractured White's skull and caused other injuries. He died of blunt force trauma at Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
Other cars were also damaged by the rocks the teens threw that day.
The teenagers ranged in age from 15 to 17 at the time of the incident last October. All five attended Clio High School.
The attorneys for Gray, Payne and Sekelski asked the judge for a five-year probation sentence as juveniles. The judge said he would decide at sentencing.
White had a 5-year-old son and a fiance at the time of his death.
“It is not a prank. It is second-degree murder," Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said at the time.
(end)
And chances are you've heard of other such cases involving teens, whether or not they turned out to be fatal.
Of course, most parents don't think they need to tell their kids not to do something specific like this - unless the kids are seriously stupid or too young to be unsupervised. Fair enough. What's NOT fair is when parents refuse to talk to their average - or even bright kids - about how Peer Pressure is no excuse for doing anything dangerous or illegal, even if it means becoming a social outcast (yes, that can happen if you're already unpopular or living in a bad neighborhood), AND say that they will ground their kids for months without phones, screens or toys of any kind if they submit to pressure to break the law.
As parenting educator Rosalind Wiseman pointed out in at least one of her books, it is NOT enough to simply tell your kids what the rules and laws are or even to say that your heart will be broken if they disappoint you by breaking the law; parents have to have the guts to impose penalties that kids are truly AFRAID of. One week without one video game won't do, and you can't wait until someone gets hurt; it has to be done at the first minor infraction.

Don't send the teenager who killed White to prison. Instead, put him on house arrest and send him to work and allow him to pay child support for the next 15 years.

Darth, you're joking, right?
That is, IF the average teen could make more than minimum wage from home, online, that might be one thing, but maybe he could do that from prison too?
(I doubt he COULD make much money online anyway. He clearly wasn't that smart.)

even if it means becoming a social outcast
_______________________________________________
Just to clarify, by "it" I meant "refusing to submit to peer pressure."
Speaking of which, here's a Mike Royko column from 1967 (pages 6-7):
https://books.google.com/books?id=fA9eDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA7&lpg=PA7&dq=%22good+teen-ager+a+pain%22+gee+royko&source=bl&ots=w-61EVvVu7&sig=-lWaR_Vs7mYO_nuEppshyWNha7A&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiXgPDvrb7eAhUEtlMKHa11BZkQ6AEwAHoECAIQAQ#v=onepage&q=%22good%20teen-ager%20a%20pain%22%20gee%20royko&f=false
It's called "Good Teen-Ager a Pain" and it's about those kids who complain, in effect: "Gee, Good Adult, why aren't you proud of me? I've never been arrested, and I'm a really good kid. It seems no one understands me."
Royko's response, in part: "Stop looking for praise for doing what you're supposed to do. That's what you're here for."
I liked Royko well enough while he was alive, but it didn't seem to occur to him that:
1) If any kid DOES talk like that (I don't know any who do), it's likely because the kid really is an outcast in that neighborhood for not breaking the law - and/or for not being able to make friends with other, more law-abiding kids. "Choosing" to stay friendless can be pretty crushing, and they DO deserve credit for it if they're not getting any support.
2) Kids don't do well when all they hear is criticism after a lot of hard work - as in "you didn't get straight As; what's the matter with you?" Many just give up if no one acknowledges that what they do is hard work.
