By next year they'll probably be blase, but there were a lotta good Nakatomi jokes this year. If there's a candlelight vigil in 2019, I'll go.
It was a silly film full of threadbare elements: Secret-agenty types had been crawling through vent shafts on TV my whole life.
So I went looking for reasons why people care about that silly little thing, and this piece seemed like a reasonable set of guesses.
Ronald Reagan's last office was in that building. A friend spoke with him on the elevator circa '89-'90. He was warm and engaging, but the friend could tell he was not doing a lot of reading at that point.

What *IS* the problem with you people??? Why are you always accusing me of crying on the internet??
I'm not crying, you're crying. My feelings are in perfect order, and sitting right where they need to be.
I think some of you need to take a good long look in the mirror and get your emotions under control.

Look, FORGET all that 'quivering chin' bee ess...
Look at the offhand shrug after "like your Mama"... He's trying to be cool.
But then watch his brow when he hears a provident, beautiful woman say "I love you" for the first time.
And don't be such a wussy.

I've ALWAYS been good-looking.
Crid at December 26, 2018 2:50 AM
And for your information, no, I'm NOT gay.
But I would do what Ryan's eyes told me to do.
Crid at December 26, 2018 2:54 AM
One reason I'm so pretty? Grooming.
Also, look at this guy.

Chinese admiral flaps lips, doesn't seem to have read any recent history books.

Well, the villains in both destroyed skyscrapers, but Hans Gruber is a much cagier, more dangerous, and more erudite villain than Spike could ever be.
Plus, Hans could eat after midnight. I never understood that point. How long after midnight did you have to refrain from feeding the gremlins? Breakfast is after midnight; technically, so are lunch and dinner.

Yeah, but it's like the "Big" arcade game or Superman's dislike of lead. It sounds like a typical system constraint.

Listen, Indiana was warm for the holiday! Almost 60°! An entirely pleasant visit.
But here I am waiting for a Lyft at LAX, and the weather is better than sexual intercourse. Good God I love L.A.
And tonight, we're all going to get laid.

Here's a thing.
Crid at December 26, 2018 12:48 PM
Rereading the stack, I guess 1248pm was for IRA.
By the way, East Central and Mountain people... I've always assumed the time seen is PST no matter where you are. Is that true?
Crid at December 26, 2018 2:00 PM
East Coast time now is 5:04pm. Compare this to what it says on your screen underneath the post and you'll know - theoretically.

Ah, thanks... Was worried that I'd been foolish for trusting timestamps

I totally stole the "eyes told me" line, but the new Blade Runner was a really weak film, so no love to Gosling. Props to my date for that movie, who let me drink two glasses of wine on the way into the theater, which made the ponderous, lethargic pace of the narrative tolerable.

That moment when you learn that Ang-girl wasn't always the withered figure you remember doddering past the cold cuts in the back aisle of the Westward Ho grocery in Brentwood twenty years ago, but was once, in fact, a stone, alluring fox.
Crid at December 26, 2018 6:27 PM
This is a better link. That chin... Just one of them in those days, there at the bottom of her face....
Crid at December 26, 2018 6:28 PM
Never saw it. Let me know.
