People sometimes approach in public spaces and ask:
"Dearest Divinity, what is the worst music in the world? Is it the latest tripe from Disney? Something on NPR? Is it the 'evolving' yet never-less-obnoxious introductory cues from Ted talks?"
And I say—
"No, Fine Inquisitor, the worst music in the world is the kind that shows up on those under-edited, un-voice-over'd, text-graphic'd YouTube and Twitter accounts...
The voice of Gen. Mazloum Abdi, the Kurdish commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces militia, is tight and controlled as he describes President’s Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the country and leave America’s allies to their fate.—
“Honestly, until now, everything the Americans told us, they fulfilled, and the same thing for us. . . . So we were surprised and confused. We were not ready for a decision like this.”
"Text messages between Khashoggi and an executive at Qatar Foundation International show that the executive, Maggie Mitchell Salem, at times shaped the columns he submitted to The Washington Post, proposing topics, drafting material and prodding him to take a harder line against the Saudi government."
Has Trump done anything that was anywhere near as rogue as the Gulf of Tonkin? (Not a defense, mind you, but for perspective.) Wage and price controls? Nationalizing the steel industry? Invade Grenada, Panama, or the Dominican Republic?
The US toppled Qaddafi and there's slavers and terrorists in Libya and "serious" foreign policy experts still consider regime change in Syria a sober US policy? How?
This latest round of "wheels coming off the White House" hot takes would be a lot more effective had there not been three a week for the last hundred weeks -- and those are all sequels to the "wheels coming off the Trump campaign" hot takes.
While I have my differences from time to time, I like Senators Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, and Tom Cotton, as well as some others who are complaining about the president’s rashness. But I object to the cynical game they are playing. They well know that their diva routine for the media is not the option the Constitution gives them. They could, at any time, have proposed an AUMF that would legitimize combat operations against whoever they believe are our enemies in Syria — not just those who would ravage the Kurds, but those they keep saying (with great persuasive force, by the way) are our geopolitical enemies: Assad’s regime, Iran, and Russia. They still could. If they were right, it would be a great way to show how wrong Trump is.
Means a wider war with Russia - you think they won't attempt to strike CONUS? - but it's for the Kurds!

That is the same issue I have with the complaints on us pulling out of Syria. What would 'victory' look like? Russia isn't willing to accept one where Assad isn't in charge. Putin has made that amply clear. Are they willing to accept war with Russia? Possibly a nuclear one?
I feel sad for the Kurds. But the US was always a fickle ally in Syria. This is nothing new. Their efforts for a Kurdish state don't appear possible. They've lost in Turkey. They don't have the forces to take Syria. And shearing off northern Iraq doesn't look likely either. So Kurdistan isn't going to happen.
The complaints are largely disingenuous. Rubio and the Democrats are just going 'Orange man bad!' Doesn't matter what Trump does. It is wrong by definition. Graham and Cotton I'm a bit more generous with. It looks to me their main complaint is they weren't kept informed. But even so the complaint they put forward in public isn't an honest one. If it was they would have long ago gotten an AUMF passed.

The Kurds have been fighting their ethnic enemies for centuries
We still have bases in Saudi Arabia, give the Kurds metric tonnes of ammo and explosives, and bomb the shit out of any airfeild that launches an air attack at them
Option 1) we go in, advance on Russia, and maybe take over Iran while we're at it, oh and occupy the whole area for a century or so. (after polishing off WW3 while we are at it)
Option 2) we shear off a small part of Syria, call it Kurdistan, and tell the Kurds 'Yeah it is smaller than you wanted. But that's all you're getting. Deal with it.' And then watch as the moment we leave Turkey or someone else invades and takes over.
And those are the good ones. Everything else is much worse.
A new way to love our planet.
A new way to mock our president.

Good statements for women to practise:

2. Ask your father. He's the head of the household.
3. Of course. I married you; why wouldn't I want to have sex with you?
4. Don't be silly. I'm never too tired.
5. I made your favourite meal.
