How soon will the mass exodus of wealthy New Yorkers commence?
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio defended his plan to provide health care to all New Yorkers — including illegal immigrants — on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper. He stopped short of explaining exactly how he planned to offset the cost, saying only that the “wrong people” had all the money and he planned to correct that.
Paul Krugman, former economist now columnist for the New York Times and Democratic Party apologist, has come to the defense of AOC's 70% marginal tax rate proposal.
"Krugman argues that ... the U.S. economy has prospered in the past with a 70 percent top rate—and, in fact, in the 1950s and early 1960s, it thrived under an even higher (92 percent) maximum rate."
What Krugman conveniently ignores is that in the 1950s and 1960s, US companies and the US economy had exactly zero competition; that offshoring production was economically unfeasible due to high shipping costs.
Despite its recent swelling, populism appears to have plateaued. A majority of Americans consistently disapprove of Trump, and in Europe, nationalist parties won a median of just 13 percent of votes in 2018 elections. The demographic sectors that are the hottest hotbeds of populism are all in decline: rural, less educated, older, and ethnic majorities. The travails of Trump and Brexit in 2018 are a reminder to supporters that populism works better in theory than in practice. Lined up against it are democratic checks and balances within a country and pressures toward global cooperation outside it, the only effective means to deal with trade, migration, pollution, pandemics, cybercrime, terrorism, piracy, rogue states, and war.

A secret truth is that I've enjoyed this ejaculatory spasm of resentment at human progress, no matter how personally despicable the twitchyboyz have been, and they've been despicable indeed…
Because it's always been perfectly clear that history is moving in a forward direction. Smart people are running this machine, and doing so first for their own benefit— They'll not be deterred by weasel-men.
The basic-cable crybabies will do their best to make the lives of others miserable, and may even start a "war" or two, but things will continue to improve despite their squirty little shitfits.

Good. Once the white men are finally dead the scions of Earth's second-most-successful cultures can take over and run the show in their inimitable, equitable, and progressive fashions.

Man, I don't think it's the populists that made the miracle happen in our generation.
(I understand why Pinker resists the M word, but you will scour the wildest, druggiest, most outlandish science fiction of the early twentieth century and find no one dreaming that life would turn out as well as it did for such an enormous fraction of the world.)

"Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids: Why Being a Great Parent is Less Work and More Fun Than You Think"
I realize most people won't see this, but from a title like that, it's clear enough the book is aimed at readers who already have a child and WANT more children. Not anti-natalists.
Besides, even if you're a happy parent of one, one good reason NOT to have more than one kid is...when a lamp gets broken, chances are it wasn't your spouse who broke it and didn't tell you. Whom else can the kid blame?

I gotta say that is a terrible argument Lenona. At the end of the day does it really matter who broke the lamp? But even more to point, who has lamps these days?

Presidential disapproval ratings. Though Trump isn't special. Every president has had disapproval ratings over 50% until you go all the way back to Ford (peak 46%). Republicans pretty much always do worse than Democrats on this metric. Trump (62) is better than GW Bush (71) but worse than HW Bush (60), so pretty average.
But Uncle Cridmo never was one to let facts get in the way of his TDS issues.
