Or a plumber for mine. Because I have a bad cold, and it's blocked up my brain.
Hoping to be mostly myself again on Sunday, or, at least, Monday.

See yesterday comment: If you're not better soon, go to a doc.

A good (earlier) overview of the HQ2 perfidy.
This Winter woman is a sharp cookie.

Also from her: You or your children will almost certainly live in one of these at some point.

Thanks a lot, Crid. Much better this morning.

My cure for that is to go have some Chinese food, hot enough to make you cry. It will clean out your whole sinus system like Drano.

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.
Every new apartment building going up in my neighborhood looks like that. And the builders smugly brag about having retail space on the first floor, as if living above a smelly restaurant or busy store is a privilege devoutly to be wished.
And the setback from the street is almost wide enough for a sidewalk.
I noticed several years ago after a trip to Seattle, that most new apartment buildings looked just like the ones I saw there, down to the coloring - boxy buildings with dark variations of green (olive), red (maroon), and yellow or taupe.

At least those new apartment buildings are not Khrushchyovka. Not much of an improvement, but an improvement.

Here's the truth: Foster is one of the most damnable blowhards on the internet. But it's important to download his podcasts (rather than listening to a streaming signal)...
…So that when Foster starts talking, you can advance the timeline 3 minutes to get to the end of his question or interjection. (I've had to go as far as *seven* minutes.)
When he's comfortable, he speaks every syllable as if it were a deposition in a murder trial... He reaches slowly for extra words with endless codicils and qualifications. It's horrible to listen to, just torture. And it's a shame, because he has some great things to say... But not enough to make it worthwhile. He pisses me off.
But credit where due. He pulled together a tidy, free-flowing two minutes today.
And this stunning roundtable, from November, was outstanding, truly essential listening...
But KM spends the first eight minutes clearing his throat. No matter who he's with, he thinks it's all about him. Arrrrggghhh

Ask yourself.

This via Murray—
That kinda rhymes with a favorite aphorism. But Murray doesn't share my instinctive & presumptive understanding of tattoo mechanics... The hot young women, and others, who wear tats do so because they know I, and older guy, find them revolting. They don't want me looking at them anyway. And they want their peers to understand that about their feelings towards me.
Another great line from the Dalrymple piece:

It's time to take that little fucker DOWN....

Love reading Dalrymple. Kinda sad, though, as his insights into the psychology of prisoners and middle-class decline remind me of too many people I grew up with.
His Life at the Bottom was a worthwhile read and provided some good insights into the mindset of poverty.
Also reminds me of P.J. O'Rourke's, "The weirder you are going to behave, the more normal you should look. It works in reverse, too. When I see a kid with three or four rings in his nose, I know there is absolutely nothing extraordinary about that person."

Just thinking out loud— I like Tyler Cohen's views on things a lot less than Foster's, but when TC is interviewing someone he keeps it moving. He's handsomely dispassionate and crisp, as if he's reading from 3 x 5 cards handed to him from his wife as he walked from the house.

"But isn’t part of the reason people vote Republican because that party presents itself as fiscally responsible compared to Democrats?"
Well, they are. But that is a very low bar to beat. You may as well claim you can run faster than the guy in a wheel chair.
