Do as I say not as I do sacrificing for the planet. (Harrison Ford crashed his plane just a few miles from me, on the golf course by Rose Avenue. A plane powered by butterfly farts, I'm sure.)
he did so while announcing he was giving up his personal helo/planes, right? because otherwise it's just more rules for the little people :/ 'Harrison Ford delivers apocalyptic climate change warning' https://t.co/TEz2O8y9UP

Joy Villa has Occupy Democrats on Facebook in a lather. She went to the 2019 Grammys in a dress with a "border wall" theme, obviously a nod to Donald Trump's proposed wall along the Mexican border.
Occupy Democrats described her as looking like a racist. The problem is, Joy Villa's father was Argentine, making Joy half-Latina. Her mother was half Native American Choctaw and half black. She's as mixed a bag of minority status as you're likely to find.

Ahh, yes, more wealth envy disguised as virtue.
Let us not forget this about Harrison Ford:
Yes, Indiana Jones rescued a hiker...
But, you know, chatting on a bedazzled smartphone at Starbucks is all that anyone should be allowed to do. Those "weekend wingnuts who go puttering around in small planes" can go suck it.
Right?

I don't envy the wealthy, I wish I could be one of them! What I detest is these hypocritical celebrities and politicans with 3 or 4 mansions, a private jet, and a host of other toys telling me that i must eat less beef so cow farts don't destroy the world.

Well, Bernie has his 3 houses. Al Gore has his. Babs has her Malibu mansion and her NYC apartments. AOC has just been elected, so she'll acquire hers soon enough.
On the other hand, George W. Bush practices what Al only preaches.

That meeting Harrison refers to and wants you to attend? it is in Dubai, and he's going. Emphasis mine:
I doubt he's travelling commercial. He might be jetpooling with some other Hollywood lights. He's certainly not going by sail boat. Again, not one damn word about my carbon footprint. Want me to pay attention? live your life like you believe the words coming out of your mouth.

I found a 2013 article from Forbes that estimates the number of registered private/executive jets in the world at about 19,000. That number may have gone up about 10% since them -- vendors typically sell about 600 per year, but about half of that many older ones are scrapped or lost each year. So figure 21,000. I'm guessing that of that number, about 80% are airworthy at any given time. (Some will be out of service for scheduled maintenance or repairs, some will be grounded for AD compliance, and some that have been parked for some time will not have current airworthiness status.)
So we have about 16,800 that are registered, current and airworthy at a given time. From what I've read, about 1700 were flown to Davos for the World Economic Forum this year. So about 10% of all of the flyable executive jets in the world went to Davos. Consider that Davos is largely a playground for the wealthy, and that not many of the WEF attendees actually attend very many sessions, and, well, there you are.

"Refusing Immigrants, Orban Asks Hungarian Women to Have More Babies"
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/11/world/europe/orban-hungary-babies-mothers-population-immigration.html
First paragraphs:
By Patrick Kingsley Feb. 11, 2019
BERLIN — Faced with a plummeting population, rising labor shortages and widespread emigration, Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary has long taken an unconventional approach to increasing the size and productivity of Hungary’s work force.
He offered university scholarships only to those who promised to stay in Hungary. He gave citizenship to ethnic Hungarians living beyond the borders. And late last year, he increased the amount of overtime employers can demand of workers — to 400 hours a year.
But on Sunday, Mr. Orban announced one of his most ambitious plans yet: Any Hungarian woman with four or more children will no longer pay income tax.
Anything to avoid immigration...
(snip)
From the second half:
...Still, demography experts said the measure was unlikely to succeed in its primary goal of growing the native Hungarian population. One of the few programs that historically succeeded in boosting the population took place in Communist-era Romania, a totalitarian dictatorship in which abortions and birth control were banned.
Like Hungary, France introduced financial incentives in 2005, but since then its birthrate has remained at around 1.9 children per woman, said Sarah Harper, a demography professor at Oxford University. And it might even have been lower without the influx of immigrants, whose birthrates are typically higher than native-born residents.
“You have to ask: how much is it down to the financial incentives, and how much is it migration and an ethnically diverse population?” Professor Harper said.
Sweden has managed to keep its birthrate above 1.8 children per woman — but only by making it far easier for women to return to work than in Hungary. Unlike in Hungary, child care in Sweden is free for all. Fathers can take parental leave as well as mothers, and in tandem they receive 55 weeks of leave at near full-pay, more than double that allotted to Hungarian mothers...

Oh, bullshit. There are bunches of people doing just that, and you just don't care.
The "private jet!" moaning is MORE wealth envy. Corporations buy into co-ops so they share the expenses, and they are the only means of getting where you really need to be on time, with your security forces AND your intact, proprietary information.
By the way - you can charter them, if you really think the TSA grope violates your rights and you need to travel.
Radwaste at February 12, 2019 4:19 AM
You are flat wrong on this Rad. The only reason anyone cares about Ford's air planes is his ridiculous and preachy bits about climate change. This isn't wealth envy. It is blatant hypocrisy on Ford's part. If he practiced what he preached then he wouldn't fly in a plane. Wouldn't own one period. Instead he owns several carbon producing air planes, as well as carbon producing cars and motor cycles, while at the same time giving speeches about how too much man made carbon dioxide is going to kill us all. If you want you can argue that Ford believes what he says and isn't a hypocrite. Of course then you have to acknowledge Ford is attempting genocide, all be it in a particularly slow and inefficient way.
As IRA said "live your life like you believe the words coming out of your mouth." Ford doesn't.

Which is why I respect Ed Begley Jr., even though I disagree with him on just about everything. Ed walks his talk.
Cousin Dave at February 12, 2019 8:00 AM
"You are flat wrong on this Rad."
Nope.
Harrison Ford is outnumbered thousands to one by those who DO walk the talk - and you have no idea who they are. But that's kinda secondary.
The fallacy is called, "Spotlight", and it is ably demonstrated by claims that because the person does not practice what they preach, then the claimant will not do that thing.
Then we all get to observe a second example of hypocrisy, where a person who does NOT conserve conspicuously objects to another person who does not conserve.
