And the Twitterverse cannot stop boo-hoo-hooing over the poor seventeen-year-old. Yes, the poor child, who doubtlessly felt that his seventeen-year-oldness was his ticket to assaulting a middle-aged adult with impunity.
I don't have a problem with how the Senator reacted; he struck the kid with an open hand. Sounds like a proportional response to me.
Am I supposed to care? Stephen King also writes fantasy about murdering children in graphic detail. For instance, Patrick Hockstetter's murder of his brother Avery in "It."
That doesn't make Stephen King unsuitable for office. Stephen King might be unsuitable for other reasons, but the fact that he's a fantasy writer with a taste for horror isn't exactly compelling to me to speak to my friends in urgent whispers, "Oh, my goodness! We must never, never, never, never vote for Stephen King! He wrote horror stories about murdering children!"
Frankly, the most disturbing thing King ever wrote about was an underage gangbang, also in "It."

I don't have a link, but I think someone should explain to PornHub that putting a 35-year-old woman in pigtails doesn't make her "barely legal."

Yes. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the little shit will continue to pick fights, and sooner or later will engage someone who will not give a proportional response.
With a little luck, he'll live long enough to learn the lesson.

Maybe. Or maybe not.
Here's some footage of him being detained by Anning's hired goons. He escaped serious injury and was released without charge...pending investigation. I'm seeing an opportunity for a life lesson here. And judging by the look on his face, I'd say he was seriously questioning the wisdom of his actions.

I doubt it. He'll have plenty of people condoning his belligerence and condemning the person who delivers the lesson.
To wit: The linked article was less about the egging than it was about Anning's anti-Muslim rhetoric. And the boy was not charged for the egging. "Punch a Nazi!"

Rod Dreher reads the wacko manifestos so you won't have to.
[New Zealand asshole] identifies himself as an “ethno-nationalist eco-fascist.” He says he was first a communist, then an anarchist, then a libertarian, and finally an eco-fascist. He’s 28. This is not a stable person.
He'll have plenty of people condoning his belligerence and condemning the person who delivers the lesson.
Agreed. Just scroll down in Patrick's link to twitter, and look at the comments. Here's a quote:
We could certainly get him nominated for Young Australian of the Year. That would be an Australian move I can be proud of. I'm going to check when nominations open.
That's the problem with punching Nazis. There are so few of them, you end up running out of Nazis to punch, so you'll have to make new ones. This will not end well.

If anything, this proves how easy as a target Australian politicians are.
Look at the reaction time from the security detail. They just sat there like idiots while Senator Fraser got egged and there was even spare time for him to bitchslap the kid before they even made a move.
On the record (released circa '92), she only makes two mistakes (IIRC and IICCC [if I Can Count Correctly, and no promises]).
But evermore, every other recording you hear of that piece will sound prim and tepid… And it's been recorded by some of the best players of the last three generations. Isbin was the one who ripped the lid off.
What I find interesting is that the split on this issue is almost completely gender-divided. Women (for the most part) are defending the child. (Even Cathy Young, who is normally a much wiser human being.)
Men, even those who don't like Anning, recognize that the child got what he deserved. I would just like to know what other people think Anning should have done.
Consider this. Anning is a sitting member of Parliament who realistically probably recognizes he's more a target for violence than the average Joe.
He's just been struck from behind and he has no idea what he's been struck with (beyond the fact that it was something breakable). He also probably realizes there's fluid running down his body. No idea what it is.
He turns and sees his assailant who is still close enough to him to launch another attack. No one has made any move (so far) to remove Anning's attacker, so Anning has to act to defend himself from further attack.
So, for those who are boo-hoo-hooing uncontrollably for the poor child, put yourself in Anning's position.
Your move.

Since you tend to be 100% wrong on the things you are sure of, you being "not sure" is a much safer position for you.
I applaud your restraint. It shows an uncharacteristic maturity on your part. Here's hoping we see more of it.
And it's only been...what? 15 years we've been posting here? Maybe in 15 more, we'll see another growth spurt. Assuming you're not dead of old age by then.

Beto O'Rourke wrote fantasy about running down children in a car, and the outrage pundits can't stop shrieking about it.
