Honestly it was amazing that Smollet was charged in the first place. The very vast majority of the time an obvious hoax like this happens it just get dropped and the cops just ask them to stop wasting their time.

This crime was just too implausible. Two neanderthal thugs who hate gays and black people and, despite their Philistine nature, watch Empire (which I'd never even heard of before this incident), recognize Jussie Smollett (who, was probably very thoroughly covered in winter garb, since the temperature was -10 degrees Fahrenheit).

And as it happens, they were carrying bleach, a rope tied into a noose and wearing MAGA hats. At ten below zero, it's a great night to be looking for black gay people to harass.

Conveniently, they throw in all the buzz words: homophobic slurs, racial slurs and MAGA.

Yet, content themselves with inflicting only superficial damage on their victim.

And since household bleach freezes at seventeen degrees, unless had only just emerged into the cold from a warm shelter, they wouldn't be pouring bleach on anyone. More likely, they'd be clubbing someone with a bottle of frozen Clorox.
