Ike and Churchill. ~ I R A Darth Aggie at June 6, 2019 9:19 AM
If you can find this book, read it. It's an interesting read on Dwight Eisenhower's recollections of military discussions he had with Winston Churchill during the war.
One that stood out to me was when Churchill showed Ike a detailed order he proposed to send to Harold Alexander in North Africa. Eisenhower told him that if he ever got such an order, he'd resign; it showed the sender had zero confidence in the recipient.
Churchill thought about it and sent a much briefer order to Alexander. Alexander, turned loose with simple orders to defeat the Germans in whatever way he deemed appropriate, responded with a string of victories by his subordinate, Montgomery.

Indeed. Was it Patton who (echoing someone?) said that you just need to tell people what you wanted done, and let them do it the best of their ability?
Otherwise, it would be considered rude to tell the PM to come to Egypt and run the operation yourself.

Here is how all this fiasco was orquestrated. The Vox Media Union which is an organization in pro of Vox employees wanted changes in salary but was not getting enough attention. So they decided to go Scorched Earth on everyone. Mainly YouTube. Why YouTube?

A long time ago, I read Churchill's WWII memoirs, all 6 volumes. One impression I remember was that Churchill was inclined to micro-management. E.g, there's at least a chapter about the caliber of tank guns. (But perhaps that problem _did_ need to rise to the highest level. A nearly universal problem with tank designers in this era was forgetting that the enemy's next generation tanks were going to have much thicker armor, just like the ones they were designing for their own side - and making the turret ring too small to allow easy upgrade to heavier guns.) He had to make an effort to leave the details to subordinates and reduce his own workload to under 24 hours a day.
Frickin' laser beam, for rills.

This is such a hot take and the dumpster fire from the comments' section could be blamed on global warming:
