From relatives living there that seems right. If you don't sit still and let them lecture you for hours on end you are engaging in violence to suppress their free speech rights and hence they are fully justified in using violence against you to restore those rights. Its a fucking hustle. Imagine you are good white liberal citizen of Seattle. You are vegetarian, you teach yoga, you voted for Obama twice and Bernie in the last primary. Everything is going great until one day you read how white people doing yoga is cultural appropriation. Shit, you just want to make a living and keep your slamming figure. Suddenly you are the potential bad guy. So in order to stay ahead of the curve you come up with a self-flagellation version of yoga with your bi-racial sorority friend. Boom, problem solved.

Why are you doing this work in a gentrifying neighborhood? Gentrification is one of the most destructive ways white supremacy is currently operating. Here is a list of ways white people like me can work towards repair:

Sounds like an exercise in groveling for "woke" white progressives. Though I suspect getting white progressives to grovel will be a lot easier than getting them to voluntarily hand over much of their own $Energy for reparations and free or low rent. Especially in Seattle, second only to San Francisco for progressive white gentrification on the west coast.

Considering the crime, poverty and hopelessness characteristic of POC communities compared to the relative prosperity, comfort and safety of white communities - especially in highly liberal, progressive cities like Seattle - I think addressing the pathology of POCness would be more enlightening and promising for POC people.

POCs, especially African Americans, would benefit by exploring with open, unbigoted minds the cultures and values of white people (and Asians and Jews) and appropriating more from them - you know, like the Obamas have done.

Liberal POCs haven't yet even become woke enough to realize that white people actually have cultures - are in fact very diverse. They still haven't realize that the more liberal, progressive, left-wing, Democrat a city, like Seattle, becomes, the more economically and racially polarized and gentrified, and miserable for POCs and the poor, it becomes.

Yoga class is NEVER comfortable, especially if you're fat like me! Fuckin' hate it.

In reality when I WAS a landlady I offered a very high rent and it barely covered my mortgage and condo fees and whatever maintenance came up. I don't remember if I made a profit, if I did it was like 50 bucks a month. It may have been a loss. I basically broke even.

You generally don’t make money as a landlord unless you have substantial equity in the property you are renting. The tax breaks for individuals just aren’t good enough to cover the expenses, and still make a profit.

Yes. Therefor the whole "offer low rents" thing only works if you're very rich and willing to leak money for charity.
