Sailer has been making this point this week: American girls rule world soccer and golf because other countries don't care. Title XwhateverX lets these people practice too much. (That happens to a lot of men throughout their academic lives, too.)
Soccer women aren't just as talented as soccer men, they're merely playing other women. If you want to play the best tennis in the world, don't bother defeating Serena: Defeat NADAL.
I'm a compact little feller, graceful but bouncy and fun, and my heart is only concerned with the well-being of others. And as I see wanton destruction of young live within and in aspiration to NFL football, I've dreamt of a league where no player on the team can exceed 160 or 180 or 200 pounds, tops. No one could doubt that it would have all the same drama and narrative crackle of today's gridiron action!
And no one would give a fuck. (Gronk was a 265 lb tight end.)
Nor can you run a basketball league where the hoop is nine feet off the floor, even if the tickets cost less.
Sports fans want what they want for their entertainment dollar. And they're not going to waste money to flatter girls or skinny people or short ones.
"My long-time readers know that with some conservatively-defined exceptions, I’m not in favor of allowing children into rooms with therapists (and I’m a licensed therapist). Labels, which therapists have a bad habit of dispensing, tend to stick. For me to believe in Asperger’s (hypothetically) is one thing; for a child to believe he 'has' it is quite another thing."

This.
The Thai women were way out of their league vs. the US women. They just didn't have the opportunities to play and train from birth the way that the US women did.
Yet, the US women insist they're getting short-changed compared to the men. But they're not when compared to women anywhere else.
Had Megan Rapinoe been born in almost any other country in the world, she would not today be a world-renown soccer star openly insulting the president of her country. Her diet, training, and playing opportunities would not have been what they were in the US. Being born in the United States afforded her this opportunity.
Bench warmers on the US team would be starters on any other national team in the Women's World Cup.
And that's why the women's team has outperformed the men's team on the world stage. Boys in other countries start playing "football" from birth and get plenty of experience playing against good players. Their sisters don't. The men are facing much better competition.
If health care costs and safety are universally-justifiable reasons under “safety rules” to allow government to restrict or control behavior, there is little in anyone’s life the government can’t – and eventually, won’t - restrict or control.

That's a potentially-fatal misreading of the National Diamond Theory put forth by Harvard economics professor, Michael Porter in his book, The Competitive Advantage of Nations.
Porter argued that a strong domestic demand is necessary for continued industrial and economic development. He did not argue that Third World countries should spawn populations too large to feed and that a large population would, by itself, grow a marginal economy into a world-beating industrialized First World nation.
Sophisticated demand at home forces continuous improvement and innovation from the companies supplying the population with goods and services. Without that pressure, companies stagnate, as does the nation's economy. A population living on $1.90 a day is hardly a sophisticated demand base.
In this report, Porter applies his theories to Rwanda. Tanzania is part of the East African Community in which he places Rwanda. I imagine much of it can be applied to Tanzania.
China's economy has grown because its domestic population is becoming more affluent and demanding better products and services. Domestic companies are innovating and improving in order to supply that demand.

Well, that doesn't mean they didn't have a good REASON for the one-child policy. (Their methods of enforcement are a different story.) Yes, it's been "abolished," but right now, IIRC, they're still not allowing more than two children per couple.
In other words, a big population is one thing, but a population that carelessly keeps doubling every half-century or so is not behaving responsibly.
