When I studied advertising in college in the Stone Age, the bald and all-white clad Mr. Clean was recognized as a phallic symbol, as was the shape of the bottle.

Have we really reached a point at which political correctness moves a product better than sex? Or is the change motivated not by moving the product, but by a fear of protests and boycotts by one of the heretofore unheard of marginalized groups randomly popping out of the woodwork lately.

There seems to be an assumption in certain corners of the advertising industry lately that any product having the slightest whiff of masculinity will be regarded by women as having cooties. As they see it, in Women World, everything has to be all female, all the time. (Pre-pubescent boys seem to be OK, as long as they are portrayed as appropriately feminized. Once they hit their teens, they disappear, except for occasional guest appearances as problems that can be solved by the product being advertised.)

To coin a phrase, "welcome to the party, pal!"

The progressives act as though anyone who dares disagree with them is bad. Not wrong, but bad, guilty of some human failing, some impurity that is a moral evil that justifies their venom.

@Dave: Companies are heeding unjustified complaints by nanny-statists and "woke" people because they are the ones who nag company officers and directors when companies don't follow their demands. The only cure is for us, also, to call company bosses when they take away our choices -- and do it in greater numbers than the bad guys do. It's tedious, annoying, and rude, but it's necessary.

Hand grip strength is a good surrogate for overall upper body strength. I saw a chart based on thousands of tested people of all ages: the curve (peak around 30 or 40) for men was so far above the women's curve that even men (all of them) in their 60s were above women of all ages. I have to be careful shaking women's hands--have never in my life shaken hands with a woman who had a man's grip. The pole vaulting records are over 19ft for men and 15 ft for women. Yeah, no difference.

None of this bears on virtue or worth but let's not pretend. It is no accident that almost never is an attempted rape or mugging foiled by the woman beating him up.

As to the media: elimination of men from all imagery is the goal but how sick is that?
