[A] group of about 20 Williams students showed up to the faculty meeting to protest, some waving signs that stated “free speech is hate speech.”
I don't understand how so many people in Western civilization could have reached adulthood with such delusional certainty that they deserve to be right about things for which they offer no evidence.

I've often wondered how something like the Bolshevik Revolution could occur; how the Nazis could take over an educated and cultured country. Neither took power with a majority, just a violent and vocal minority.
I fear we're about to find out.

The history of racism is helping the south in that fight. After everything the KKK did it is illegal to wear a mask in public most of the time. There is also strong support for self defense. Black lives matters has tried protests in Dallas and Houston to disastrous consequences. They blocked off a highway so a lady with a sick kid almost ran them over. When they went to court over it the BLM people got sent to jail. They endangered the life of a child in an illegal protest. Antifa has also tried moving in. But if the cops see you in a mask you go to jail. If you assault someone they may shoot you in self defense. That shut both Antifa and BLM down pretty quick. Doing things like they do in Seattle just isn't possible here.

I've been reading some lately about the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. In one year during the Terror, about 16,000 people were sentenced to death; about 10,000 others were killed in "uprisings", and untold thousands of others were simply murdered. And the people responsible did it all with the absolute, firm conviction that they were the most virtuous people in the room.
Arabs are increasingly saying they are no longer religious, according to the largest and most in-depth survey undertaken of the Middle East and North Africa.

That's the problem with sanctimony, whether secular or religious; it empowers one to commit the most grotesque atrocities free of those inconvenient twin encumbrances of guilt and shame.
Another reason to avoid any collectivist political philosophy, be it fascism or communism.
One tries not to panic--

Imagine describing this to someone who died more that thirty years ago.

And then ask yourself why you're trying to say things to dead people.
But still
