This is what happens when you don't have an explicitly written Constitution. Yeah, yeah, centuries of common law and tradition... does anyone seriously think that today's ruling class has any respect for tradition?
"One of the truck drivers who services my workplace told me about what had happened to one of his colleagues who had worked for the same trucking company. I remembered this other guy because he used to service us a few years ago. You probably know that big rig drivers in the US must have a commercial driver's license (CDL), and there are strict rules for CDL holders.
"The colleague's sons, aged around 14–16, had given him brownies on a Saturday. The man didn't normally drink, but that evening he did have a couple of beers to relax. He thought his buzz was from the beers. On Monday morning he went to work and his name was drawn at random for a drug test, which trucking companies are required to perform on CDL holders. He failed because he was positive for cannabis, and the company fired him that day despite his protests that he never had smoked pot.
"You guessed it: his sons had made pot brownies and thought it would be a great joke to give some to dad to loosen him up. The driver told me this guy's sons thought it was a joke when dad lost his job and his CDL. The poor guy tried to fight it, but got nowhere.
"There was a similar case involving a New York cop, Anthony Chiofalo..."

"... What they did was seriously wrong, and there need to be proportional consequences, but torpedoing their futures is just as useless as enabling them: it makes certain that they'll be a------- their entire lives. Given their ages, he should probably consult an expert on this, because they've had a long time to turn into little a-------, and he hasn't got much time to try to fix it.
"While it's true that some people are just rotten, I think most kids who are a------- are a------- because of their upbringing, rather than an inherent incapability to respect society's rules and other people. If he's any kind of a decent parent, he doesn't get to wash his hands of them at 18 and inflict them on the world. The only way he gets to give up on them is when he's exhausted all avenues and it's clear they really are beyond help.
The fact is, when he decided to have those kids, he took on the responsibility of turning them into decent adults. Quite often, the asshole doesn't fall far from the tree.
Said the man who is child free. People of that age group are not known for their impulse control or the ability to consider the long term ramifications of their actions.
Short term solution: rescind all privileges. Sell any thing of theirs that can be sold, to support the family. Tell the older son to get a job, and that his wages will go to support the family. Impress upon the younger one the minute he is old enough to work he will, for the same terms.
If they do not like new regime, they're welcome to march down to the court house and petition the court for emancipation.
Longer term, dad should wait a while to get clear of the pot, and then apply for a job with a different company. Unless there is a mandate to report the reason for termination, the former employers are not likely to say anything.

Why should he? isn't gender just a social construct?
I totally bought a pair of pricey, elegant glass CD storage towers at a hipster furniture store in the old Helms building. I was an exceptionally good-looking bachelor with a new townhouse to adorn. Bought the first on approximately September 7, 2001.
Bought a second on about September 15, 2001.
Set 'em right next to each other, one about a unit-width in front of the other.
Staggered their geometry relative to the nearby wall.
Dunno why, but there was probably a reason.
The saleswoman was a totally warm-hearted & sexable woman less than twenty years younger than my own middle-aged self, and she kissed me after writing the sales ticket for the second one, but that's not why I bought it.
Bought an overdesigned, Scandinavian black leather couch from a store around the corner, toward the interior of the complex, not realizing that I was a living, breathing bachelor stereotype.

Screeching children can ruin any moment.
Screeching parents can be a problem, as well.

That too. They came around in a panel van, probably a 1960 Ford or somesuch, and I have no doubt it was carbureted.
But think about that: a hot rack of donuts, sent out every morning to everyone's street, as if we were living in paradise.
