Sunbathing topless is a young woman's game. And France does not have a replacement birthrate. So, there are fewer young native French women to sunbathe topless. France's immigrant population is mostly Muslims from Africa, a population that is not inclined toward topless sunbathing. So, fewer women sunbathing topless and France slowly becoming an African Muslim country.

I'm always going to want to denigrate the monstrous Islamic immigrants, but I think this mostly just sociological rather than demographic. Western Civ —even among the (vastly swollen, so-to-speak) intellectual classes— has been through some enormous transitions in its sources and judgments of eroticism and sexuality. It's easy to imagine that carefree tits out on the beach has fallen in stature as a posture of daring and free-thinking sophistication. We got gay marriage now. And naked tits are everywhere, especially private screens on TV & computers.

I remember about ten years ago when a TV cameraman, during a lull in Free Practice 2 for the Monaco Grand Prix, happened aross one naked pair among the hundreds of young women sunning themselves in the afternoon light on La Condamine. He wasn't being sneaky; the odds were against it. The announcer briefly apologized, and it wasn't even a snicker. And I thought, that will never happen again… Because of fashion, not because of censorship.

But it was great while it lasted.
