How Long Before Dumbass, Overreaching California Legislators Make It Illegal To Eat A Hamburger?
One that came from a cow, that is, as opposed to cauliflower. Next up, no more leather shoes!!
If you don't think it's moral to wear fur or leather shoes or eat a burger, well, go with your principles. But maybe try to persuade other people into coming around to your point of view. Don't impose your principles on everybody else.
"California could soon ban sale of new fur products under bill sent to governor," says the LA Times headline on the article by Phil Willon and Sonja Sharp:
Assemblywoman Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) said she authored the bill because of "overwhelming evidence" of inhumane practices in the fur industry and the availability of fashionable alternatives."If you're going to buy a garment [off] the rack in California, you should be reasonably assured that an animal didn't suffer to bring that product to California," Friedman said.
What if some garment worker suffered? But -- wait -- what if what we privileged Westerners see as suffering is a way out of grinding poverty for people in the developing world.
Oops. Seems things might be a little more complicated than the first-glance-than-legislate M.O. of Friedman and Co.
The legislation received strong support from animal rights advocates, including the Humane Society of the United States. Opposition came from fur product makers and retailers as well as the Los Angeles County Business Federation and Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. The proposed ban now heads to Newsom's desk for his consideration, and supporters of the bill feel optimistic that he'll sign it.
Fur is, shall we say, low hanging fruit in California, since there aren't all that many days in temperate Venice, where I live, that call for so much as a ski jacket.
Also, hello, geniuses: If somebody has the money to buy fur, they have the money to bop over to Vegas and buy one. Putting California furriers and fur workers out of business is unlikely to do more than put a dent in the incomes of a few individuals.

Let's see, California has already become the most business-hostile state in the union. And it is bleeding jobs.
Just a few examples of that hostility: Assembly Bill 5 (AB5) makes it difficult for companies to hire contract employees. Overtime rules mean that overtime pay is owed when an employee works more than 8 hours in one day, not 40 in one week like most states. Psychological stress is recognized as a valid workman's comp claim. The state's Immigrant Worker Protection Act makes is illegal to follow federal immigration law. So, to comply with state law, employers must violate federal law.
In a Dec-2018 editorial, Investors Business Daily reported that "some $76.7 billion in investment capital 'diverted' from California, killing an estimated 275,000 jobs."
IBD goes on to warn that, "In the next downturn, the state's stock-market dependent finances will once again tumble deeply into the red, and the economy will no longer be spinning out new jobs. By then, many of the long-term, stable employers will have left."
A ban on selling fur is small potatoes compared to the destruction that one-party rule is doing to the state.

She must hate Jenniger Lopez with the fury of a thousand suns if she wants to destroy an entire industry just to get back at her.

I guess the California S&M crowd will have to switch to pleather.

I once bought a wallet that came with a little tag certifying it was made with authentic imitation leather. I don't know what that is but maybe it is a solution.

In the Middle Ages, the Church was intent on forcing you to be good (not that they succeeded). In calif they want to force you to be ecological and "fair" to employees. Force is what the Left knows. They do not trust anyone to act properly. They are intent on banning all the things. And when they suffer from their own bans (like the big fires and the lack of reservoirs during drought) they blame climate change rather than themselves. There was a plan back in the 1990s for enough reservoirs to stave off a drought, but they shut it down. When they implement rent control and everyone and their uncle knows this will reduce the supply of rental units, and the number of rental units goes down, they are still surprised. It boggles the mind.
