Hours after news broke that NBCUniversal will re-reboot "Battlestar Galactica," an idea colder than a Cylon's heart, we learn that '60s sitcom "Hogan's Heroes" is getting the sequel treatment from series co-creator Al Ruddy.
Are you frakkin' kidding me, BG reboot already? the 2004 version was for the most part pretty good. Can you do better with B level material? why not, and I'm spitballin' here, The A-Team?

Won't be the same. Can't be. Nazis are not real anymore. They're cartoon villains.
Some HH trivia:
The family of Werner Klemperer ("Colonel Klink") was Jewish and escaped the Nazis in the '30s. As a result, Werner always insisted the Germans be played as clumsy oafs on the show. Klemperer was the son of renowned conductor, Otto Klemperer, who became conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic after emigrating to the US in 1935.
Bob Crane ("Colonel Hogan") was murdered in a bizarre sex triangle in Scottsdale, Arizona. The murder was the subject of the film, Auto Focus.
Richard Dawson ("Newkirk") was evacuated from Southern England to escape the German bombing in World War II as a child.
John Banner ("Sgt. Schultz") was Jewish and escaped the Nazis in the '30s. He lost a lot of his family in the Holocaust. Banner served in the US Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
Robert Clary ("LeBeau") was interred at Buchenwald by the Nazis and entertained his fellow inmates by singing. He was the only member of his family to survive the camps. After the war, he found out that 3 of his 13 siblings had not been taken to the camps and had survived the Nazi occupation.
Leon Askin ("General Burkhalter") fled Vienna in 1940 and served in the US Army Air Force in World War II.
No way a Hogan's Heroes remake today includes that kind of history or generates that kind of trivia.

An A-Team reboot could work. But yeah, Hogan's Heroes is a bust. WW2 was too long ago. People today just don't have much of a connection with it. Maybe reimagined as a normal prison instead of a war prison? An OZ comedy hour?

Just in case you forgot, or are less than 30, we've been facing the imminent demise of human civilization due to climate disaster for more than 30 years. Here's a rundown.

It is kinda like those nuclear clocks which always show we are two or three minutes from total annihilation. And 30 years later we are still two or three minutes away.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, we are all going to die tomorrow . . .

That's why the original show always had a bit of an edge. Underneath all the comedy was something deadly serious, and that came across even to 8-year-old me as I watched it in its first run. There really was a Stalag 13 POW camp, although the show is based more on the Luftwaffe's POW camp system.
I cringe at the idea of a remake; I'm sure it will be filled with fart jokes and will completely miss the point.
You may think you're having a bad week, but....
