News Of The "First Amendment" Thingie Travels Late To Santa Monica
Either that or Yahoo News has become a parody site, along with some Santa Monica newspaper site.
To be fair: The SMPD part of this has been debunked, but I would venture the bit with the bank's statement might be something they actually said. Also, the fact that somebody published this to begin with, then other sites picked it up, is pretty fucking fruitcakes -- yet perhaps reflective of how everyone understands Los Angeles to be full of "woke" idiots.
Elise Solé writes at Yahoo News (in a piece taken down but still available through Web Archive):
An armed robber wearing a "Day of the Dead"-type mask, who held up a Wells Fargo Bank, may be charged with cultural appropriation, in addition to bank robbery.According to a press release by the Santa Monica Police Department, on Sept. 10, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gloves, and a skull mask similar to one that represents the Mexican holiday, entered a Wells Fargo location in the beachside Los Angeles suburb.
Holding a shotgun, the man demanded cash in amounts varying between $3,000 and $5,000, and ran, jumping an 8-foot fence outside. According to the Santa Monica Observer, a witness said the robber jumped into a red SUV waiting in an alley.
Eighty police officers from neighboring towns Beverly Hills and Inglewood and from Los Angles county, including the sheriff's department, also responded to the scene, reported the Santa Monica Observer.
More from the "woke" geniuses:
A representative of the Santa Monica Police Department did not respond to Yahoo Lifestyle's request for comment. "Use of a Day of the Dead Mask during a robbery can be a separate offense or an enhancement, under the California Penal Code," a police spokesperson said in a press release, per the Observer. "In this case, the suspect is sought for violating the rights of indigenous peoples, and for bank robbery."A spokesperson from Wells Fargo tells Yahoo Lifestyle, "We are working with law enforcement and are unable to provide more details as this is an ongoing criminal investigation. Wells Fargo values and promotes diversity and inclusion in all aspects of business at all levels. We do not tolerate racism, cultural appropriation or discrimination of any kind."
Translation: "At least rob our bank in a Richard Nixon mask, you haters!"
UPDATE from The Santa Monica Lookout (newspaper):
The Lookout called Santa Monica Police to verify the validity of the police press release quoted in the Observer article that was the basis for Yahoo's report."That's completely bogus," department spokesperson Lt. Candice Cobarrubias said.

Yahoo is now claiming that the story was satire. The writer has done some pretty junky “reporting” before. Why she’s still working is a mystery.

Probably related to some one KateC. That seems to drive a lot of new hiring. Well that and big tits.

The Santa Monica Lookout reports that the robber "...escaped with between $3,000 and $5,000 in cash."
Yahoo Lifestyle reports that the robber "...demanded cash in amounts varying between $3,000 and $5,000...."
The Lookout article makes it clear that he got away with up to $5,000 in cash. The Yahoo article makes it sound as if he demanded between $3,000 to $5,000 at each teller window.
This, coupled with KateC's link, tells me Elise Solé is a poor writer. It also tells me Yahoo LIfestyle has incompetent editors.

I was wrong—she quoted the SM Observer which had a run story they claimed as satire. Still, sloppy job.

Layers and layers of fact checkers and editors.
Remember that, and this story, when the MFM tells you they're better than bloggers.
MFM = muther fookin' media

And yet, people get outraged when #OrangeManBad calls CNN, MSNBC, etc. Fake News.
This stuff wasn't satire, IMO. Some people just made some shit up.

Damn these perkies of mine! That explains so much.

It's kind of tickle that the sources can, in such trivial contexts as this, just make shit up.
It's what gave us the Onion ("The Titanic Scenario: Could it Happen?") and the Babylon Bee.

Pet, Grow up. Burn your books, break your teevee in half, shred your friendships, shed your priors and take it from the top. Hit the library and rebuild.
We need you guys to grow up… To stop being needy, clique-seeking, poon-deprived 13-year-olds with a catchphrase.

You're bitter.

Wanna know why I got pissy? Wanna know wanna know? Do you hate rhetorical questions? Do you hate rhetorical questions but still wanna know I barked at Mpet?
Because during long drives and flights and waits for dentists lately, I've been reviewing old 5th Column podcasts, and recently revisited this one. Beginning at about 55min and 40sec, the fellows give sharp words to lesser conservatives for endless Pavlovian bitching about news sources... Almost always with trite phrases and fifth-grade code words like "mainstream media" and "fake news." Foolish voters masturbate with pleasure when their pandering cable TV heroes (or pitiless candidates) mechanically crank these tropes.
It's trite and it's hokey. The rhetoric is tired and bloodless. It never changes because it doesn't improve anything. It portends no greater action than moaning the same way next time the code words are spoken. It's like bickering in a bad marriage year after year. You should have left her or him three weeks after the wedding… Who knows where you could be by now!
Here's the thing, Mpet (et al.): You don't have to bitch about mainstream media any more! The world heard you.
You can build your own network of trusted sources from a variety of fields and never again draw your understanding from 'mainstream media.' This is what every admirable human being has been doing since the dawn of time anyway, and certainly what every thinking person has been doing since the birth of the internet. Okay, okay, the mainstream media is bad! So why after all these years are you watching it at all?
I'll tell you why... For the same reason people stay in loveless marriages: It's convenient to stay and bicker. It's emotionally unthreatening and it doesn't require much work... There's certainly no sincere pain to suggest growth.
Complaints about MSM & FN are basically negative reviews of certain TV shows. The complainers should watch something else.
I'll always think the election of Donald Trump described sincere and smoldering revolutionary power in the American electorate.
Those who've spent these years in unimproved & fruitless but trivially gratifying bitch-smirks about Hillary & media are squandering that power. If Trump's re-elected, it will bring nothing but more robotic whining from these fanboys.
And if he's not, there will be no patience with their tears.

I'm the bitter one? It is a good thing you are in the film industry Crid. You do a lot of projecting.
