So is the progressive position that taxpayers should shoulder the risk of expensive California homes built in what should be wilderness catching fire? Or that the insurance company should be made to just keep eating the cost of rebuilding in a fire zone till it goes bankrupt? https://t.co/XYXn7XvHWF

An unpleasant metaphor, perhaps worth the vulgarity.
It's always great when kids try to help their parents.

These people are gorgeous.
People used to take fabric seriously.
If you see me in a coat made of anything but wool or silk, I'm slumming… On your behalf. I'm trying to make you feel comfortable in your own skin. Which is a lot of work.
(It ain't about prices, which are comparable [look it up]… It's about dignity.)
If I'm wearing anything with a logo or slogan, I secretly despise you and everyone you've ever loved.

I thought verbal incapacity was part of their charm. You can take a dog straight from to your illicit hookups with the grad student at her apartment and go home to your wife and the dog won't say nuthin'...
Unless you give it the tools of language.
Sheesh

I especially like the bit about how their business is important to them and how much their household is valued while at the same time they are canceling their business with them. Gotta love when the boilerplate and the message don't match.

I'd buy one if we're sure it can run Win 10.
Not really, but my next & probably last desktop will be a monster. (Laptops are too cheap & powerful to resist nowadays.)

There seems to be this attitude that insurance should be automatic and at a low (or no) cost. Insurance companies are expected to keep premiums low and still pay out the maximum on every claim or they're accused of being "greedy."
Guess what? Insurance is a business. And insuring houses located in a wildfire-prone area risky - even riskier if the government limits the clearing of dead brush and the building of a water supply for fighting the fires. The companies have a right, nay, an obligation to their other customers, to reduce that risk.

On theory, popular among some anthropologists, is that humans invented language, not for practical purposes like hunting and gathering, but in order to gossip about each other, things that cannot be communicated in grunts and signals.

I'd buy one if we're sure it can run Win 10.
It probably can, in a virtual machine. Oh, Boot Camp is still a thing? I'd still probably go with a virtual machine.
But it's going to be overpriced compared to a Windows machine, even with the same or similar features.

The tweet deserves an answer, and mine is: Those need not be the only two choices. How about we give insurance companies the right to "redline" any town that doesn't allow, or aven doesn't require, homes and buildings be separated from woods by firebreaks as forest agencies have been recommending for a century?
There's nothing wrong with building a town in a forest if you're willing to maintain a 100 yard cleared zone between the town and the forest. But otherwise you have brought mega-fires on yourself by making it impossible for the forest agency to pursue a sensible "let the underbrush burn" policy.

Bonus Points:
"The company even allegedly committed fraud to qualify as a woman-owned business. Federal law gives special contracting opportunities to companies that are owned and controlled by women."

Never maid $165k in direct income, Crid. About $120k was the most. Now if you talk about MAGI or AGI then that is a different story. Kinda hard not to hit those levels. But those are mostly made up numbers anyways. Either way I'm in the process of shutting things down and retiring for a while. The wife needs to get out of the house and away from the kids so I'll Mr. Mom it and let her be happy.
