I work in the financial sector. It's interesting that my employer mostly promotes based on merit, regardless of gender. I say mostly because there are some people who have jobs based on who they know, but no one is ever hired or promoted on the basis of their genitalia. The other interesting part, however, is that our HR department, which includes 15-20 people, is comprised completely of women. I understand this is true pretty much everywhere. It's unclear to me why that might be the case.

It isn't going to work.

Women's work seems to be paid less universally. So if you're a woman going into a mostly male field, you will be well paid because you're perceived as doing men's work. But if a critical mass of women enter the field, salary goes down.

If University of Melbourne is worried about gender inequality in status and earning, my guess (and it is conjecture, I'm not going to go look up the salaries of every field) is they'd be better off looking at how much the women they already have working for them in various positions are paid, and compensating them more.

If "women's work" paid more, more men would enter those fields. If more men entered those fields, more women would be hired to fill the roles they left.

Stop trying to move women around in order to grant them status, grant them status where they already are.

It is amazing how the ExIm keeps coming back. I get that it isn't a lot of money in the context of the federal budget. But it is an act of pure cronyism gifting taxpayer dollars to the most politically connected companies. It should be shut down just on the moral issues.
