It was a low of 46 here today in LA, and we were contemplating using office furniture for firewood (in between whining like it was Minneapolis at -2 outside).

Minneapolis @ -2F is considered a nice winter day.
I R A Darth Aggie at December 19, 2019 5:43 AM
Houston 65F is considered 'freezing'. People start lighting trash cans on fire to survive.
Of course 80F is a 'cool' day. Especially if the humidity is under 80%.
Ben at December 19, 2019 6:06 AM
LOL
-2 degrees in Minneapolis would be considered a heat wave. I was there one January when the morning temperature was -25 and the weather person on the radio was all excited because it going to "warm up" to -11.

Heck, I consider anything under 90F in the summer in Tallahassee to be nice, even if the RH is high and you start sweating like a hog in under 5 minutes. When we start pushing 100F, it's the "dry" heat. Like an oven.
Having lived in colder climes, I don't consider anything above 20F to be "cold". Only a few times the last couple of years have we gotten down below the upper 20s. But my bananas haven't ripened yet. :-(

I think I was 11 when on a vacation we ended up in International Falls (summer). I was fascinated that the parking meters had electrical outlets. My dad explained that it got so cold that engine oil would turn to sludge and you couldn't start your car without an engine block heater.
Of course, when they hit 90F people are keeling over because they can't take the heat and very few people have an air conditioner.

Ho, ho, ho, you're on the naughty list. You're going to get some lumps, alright. Just not coal.

IDK, Darth, I found Summer in Tallahassee to be pretty brutal. I never found any "dry" heat there - it was always a humid heat. Fall, Spring, and Winter, however, were pleasant.
Conan the Grammarian at December 19, 2019 7:40 AM
Conan, I'd prefer to sweat my ass of than to freeze it off. Tallahassee really has only 2 seasons: when you can get away with taking three showers per week, and when you can get away with taking three showers per day.
As the one wit told me, I saw Wile E. Coyote chasing the Roadrunner, and they were both walking. I used that one, but updated it to them using e-scooters. And of course, Wile using an Acme scooter accelerator.

I'd prefer neither. If San Francisco, as it's currently run today, had one redeeming feature, it was the weather - permanently between 80°F and 40°F. Charlotte, on the other hand, has brutal summers, but fairly mild winters. We get one snow a year and it only lasts a few days.

My husband and I spent last Thanksgiving in Okinawa. We were amused to see all the locals walking around in sweaters and knit hats.
It was high fifties at night. High 60’s during the day. Hotel prices were low season, and we are thinking, what a great place to spend the winter.
Everything we like about Japan without the 20 feet of snow where we live.

In my corner of the Caribbean it's 70 right now and I'm freezing. For eleven months the weather oscillates between 95 to 115 degrees.
Now, the cold weather would be much welcome if it weren't for the fact that the sudden dip in temperature triggers a torrential downpour.

With Biden being the front-runner, I'm trying to imagine what a debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden will look like - two old farts trying to out-macho each other. Donald will call Joe names and Joe will challenge Donald to a push-up contest.
Conan the Grammarian at December 19, 2019 7:35 PM
True dat Conan. But the presidential debates have been a farce for quite a few decades.
