I'm proudly "bossy," & I encourage younger women to be "bossy"--stand up for themselves. Being pantywadded about a word is antithesis of being powerful.

Being "bossy" is how I forced @cityattorneyLA to unkill the free community mediation prog. https://t.co/ErQk73UdYk #lovebossy https://t.co/aTjk3KYU8y

Well, one could argue that there IS a difference between being assertive and being bossy. Even little boys are expected to give other boys a fair chance in the game or in the classroom. (But even when they don't, they seldom get called "bossy." Even when they're rude about it.)
What's the difference between the two terms? Assertive people have real respect for the opinions of others and are willing to LISTEN, whether the other people are older or younger. Bossy people would push around their own bosses - rudely - if they thought they could get away with it. (Bossy kids try to push around their own parents and teachers.)
It might be a good idea for women accused of being bossy to ask: "Are you accusing me of being rude? How so? Why don't similar people here get called rude?"

It's the 'I'm not oppressed. I'm just an asshole.' thing. Don't want to be called bossy then stop being bossy. As Lenona points out you can be assertive without being bossy.
As for boys seldom being called out on being bossy, maybe 50 years ago. Things are different now. Girls are far less likely to be called bossy these days. Which is probably why they get ticked when they finally do get called that.

Bossy comes from insecurity. Far too many people unused to or untrained in management roles take any challenge to a statement they make as a challenge to their authority. The secure ones know the difference.

Just a reminder: Jews are not "bossy", we're "pushy". Please stop disrespecting my faith community! Insensitive adjectives are as hateful as pronouns!
