Can a person overcome being born into a "trailer-trash" (yes, pejorative) home? Nature or nurture? The short, drug fueled life of busty porn-hottie "Chloe" Jones. (No naughty pictures, can be opened anywhere.)
"The Jones girls had trailer trash in their blood - their grandmother, a local beauty queen and barbiturate addict, shot herself in front of their mother when she was young. Donna Jones might have coped better in raising her own three girls had her husband been around to lend a hand"
"By all accounts, the men who took up residence in or around the family trailer in Silsbee for the next few years were far from ideal father figures. One was described by a family friend as a "visual pedophile" who would spontaneously ejaculate as he watched the young Jones girls move about the house (the other sisters deny this). And there was another, a redneck from Lumberton whose first wife had left him for a "nigger" and who openly watched porn films while the girls looked on in amusement. "
"By the time she met a young marine called Jason David Sturrock, Melinda Dee Jones already had a few suicide attempts on her record, a reputation about town as a pathological liar and a bed with her name on it at the local asylum"

Oh, it's a really big crisis.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will fly out Sunday with a large delegation of congressional Democrats heading 3,781 miles across the Atlantic to the United Nations COP25 climate change conference in Madrid.
It's been so many years that only the piece's weaknesses come to mind (the abhorrent lyrics, the precious guitar passages)... As the clip began, I wanted to walk in and try to explain how disorienting and extraordinary that tape-reversed piano sting sounded during Nixon's first term.
It's gratifying as Hell that thoughtful young men can still appreciate the song's excitement.
The repeated phrase at the top to the second half of Wakeman's solo is a generational marker of (almost) uncontested adoration. I've seen them maybe a half-dozen times, and made it a point to look around the hall at that moment: People seem a little disappointed that he doesn't play it exactly that way.
They're asking "Who's on keyboards?" and I wanna shout 'Life on Mars! Morning Has Broken! Your Song! (probably)'…
(Those chord changes make me wanna get laid 1977-style… A full bush reeking of Irish Spring, all that stuff.)

One of my many sadnesses is the result of watching the #metoo crowd ignore abuse within families. I can guarantee you that beauty can be a curse for a ten-year-old who looks just like she will at 18, except for her bust; she will have to bear the abuse from trash of all kinds, "parents" being uninterested in protecting her. Forget about an education.
I can show you a guy in jail for life plus two thousand years for his known crimes, and there are others against minor children, some in his own family, the authorities don't know about.
One of them has escaped, but wakes up crying now and then, still. Women in her family didn't lift a finger to help her.
Small towns, just like large ones, are often run by families and friends, people who will protect the people they know no matter how horrible their behavior.

Crid: This place seems to be going toward a grim, carnival-geek direction, what with Patrick's foodpenis stories and everything Mpet links.
Uh, dumbass? Yeah, Crid, that would be you...
Did you happen to notice what appeared at the top of that links section?
Yeah, that would be the AITA (Am I The Asshole?) story on Twitter that Amy posted (which was a linked story from Reddit).
So, it wasn't my "foodpenis story." I, like everyone else who commented on that story, was responding to a story that Amy shared. You spent that entire thread in your curmudgeonly bitching and grumbling mode that no one wanted to discuss the Airport Voiceover Lady that you (for whatever reason) find so utterly discussable.
Crid, just a reminder: at your stage in life, you have one foot in the grave already. Perhaps, before the other foot steps in, you could -- oh, I don't know -- grow the fuck up!

Um. Hi Crid. You are quite the odd fellow. But it is nice to see you agreeing with me. Yes Bitcoin isn't much of a currency. And moves like that causing valuations to swing between $4k and $12k isn't helping it. A pretty poor store of value.
By the way it has fallen since that story. It was $10k-$12k in July, a month before that story was published. It is now $7k-$8k. Roughly a 30% fall.

One of the Gavin de Becker books —and from quick googling, it must have been a less-popular sequel to his bestseller— once described the irony of David's response to his dilemma. If you wanna look it up, it might have been in here. It's been twenty years, so that might be wrong.
Basically— Anyone looking at the way David had lived his life might well have assumed the younger brother was the demented murderer.... Apparently, that was a deeply troubled family. (What I remember of the description is so weird it would be wrong to summarize.)
That's not to impugn David's heroic behavior in anyway... Courageous character in a profoundly humble spirit.
