Chances are that they were thinking of filming another episode of the Brave Little Puppy. Growing up in Florida, I was always taught that alligators like to eat dogs and to keep your dogs, even large ones, away from alligators.

Perhaps an old wives' tale, but one that could have saved this dog.

The 1970s wasn't just super-hip disco hits and tantalizing polyester clothing with gigantic lapels.

And by the Pacific I meant the Atlantic, but that comment was typed in an airport while waiting to fly West, so it actually makes perfect sense.

• It was Lee gym teacher Leonard Skinner who gave the band its name.
• Hoyt's mother co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel" and introduced Elvis to Colonel Tom Parker.
• Hoyt starred in Gremlins and had some success as a songwriter.

The alumni list, however, does not include me. I attended a high school in another part of town.
