That just reinforces my desire to never take a cruise.

Ben you sound like my husband. Due to the experience of friends, the latest addition is: Go on a cruise, get sick. It has been added to the list of : Go to Egypt, China, Thailand, Africa, South America, Mexico, get sick.
When we were younger we tolerated it better. Now paying several thousand dollars for a case of dysentery seems excessive.
Hint for world travelers. You can always tell the level of civilization, by the quality of the plumbing.
Ironically We almost signed up for a cruise on the Diamond Princess two years ago. My mother’s health took a turn for the worse and we decided against it.

Not exactly cruises, but I always had sensational luck with scuba boats (12-24 passengers) in some of the world's most beautiful places. And on craft like those, they did a good job of provisioning reasonably good veggies instead of obnoxious carbs.

This here is quip-y and fun.

Swear to God, if people had just been reading my links here since twenny-MF'ing-04, the United States would be paradise by now,

I've also enjoyed scuba a few times Crid. Though it is a bit pricey for me right now.
Intellectually I know that as long as you don't go bargain basement on a cruise it isn't that bad. But Carnival's history of poop based infections leaves a real yuck factor. Also, all the people I know who talk about how great their cruise was are also very over weight. If I want a week of sitting around eating and drinking with nowhere to go I can just wait for the next hurricane.

This is getting serious.
Now.
> Carnival's history
Nothing about those ships is alluring.
