The Sex Of A Leopard Isn't "A Social Consruct"
Some leopards have sperm. These leopards are biologically male. Some leopards have eggs. These leopards are biologically female.
In The WSJ, Evolutionary biologist Colin Wright and developmental biologist Emma Hilton make similar points about humans and take on the current push by activists to deny the reality of biological sex.
And P.S. I'm for treating all people with respect and kindness, meaning that if you ask me to call you "she, him, zher, etc., I will try to do that.
Wright and Hilton:
The argument is that because some people are intersex--they have developmental conditions resulting in ambiguous sex characteristics--the categories male and female exist on a "spectrum," and are therefore no more than "social constructs." If male and female are merely arbitrary groupings, it follows that everyone, regardless of genetics or anatomy should be free to choose to identify as male or female, or to reject sex entirely in favor of a new bespoke "gender identity."To characterize this line of reasoning as having no basis in reality would be an egregious understatement. It is false at every conceivable scale of resolution.
In humans, as in most animals or plants, an organism's biological sex corresponds to one of two distinct types of reproductive anatomy that develop for the production of small or large sex cells--sperm and eggs, respectively--and associated biological functions in sexual reproduction. In humans, reproductive anatomy is unambiguously male or female at birth more than 99.98% of the time. The evolutionary function of these two anatomies is to aid in reproduction via the fusion of sperm and ova. No third type of sex cell exists in humans, and therefore there is no sex "spectrum" or additional sexes beyond male and female. Sex is binary.
There is a difference, however, between the statements that there are only two sexes (true) and that everyone can be neatly categorized as either male or female (false). The existence of only two sexes does not mean sex is never ambiguous. But intersex individuals are extremely rare, and they are neither a third sex nor proof that sex is a "spectrum" or a "social construct." Not everyone needs to be discretely assignable to one or the other sex in order for biological sex to be functionally binary. To assume otherwise--to confuse secondary sexual traits with biological sex itself--is a category error.
Denying the reality of biological sex and supplanting it with subjective "gender identity" is not merely an eccentric academic theory. It raises serious human-rights concerns for vulnerable groups including women, homosexuals and children.
Women have fought hard for sex-based legal protections. ... Separate sporting categories are also necessary to ensure that women and girls don't have to face competitors who have acquired the irreversible performance-enhancing effects conferred by male puberty. The different reproductive roles of males and females require laws to safeguard women from discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere. The falsehood that sex is rooted in subjective identity instead of objective biology renders all these sex-based rights impossible to enforce.
The denial of biological sex also erases homosexuality, as same-sex attraction is meaningless without the distinction between the sexes. Many activists now define homosexuality as attraction to the "same gender identity" rather than the same sex. This view is at odds with the scientific understanding of human sexuality. Lesbians have been denounced as "bigots" for expressing a reluctance to date men who identify as women. The successful normalization of homosexuality could be undermined by miring it in an untenable ideology.
Those most vulnerable to sex denialism are children. When they're taught that sex is grounded in identity instead of biology, sex categories can easily become conflated with regressive stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. Masculine girls and feminine boys may become confused about their own sex. The dramatic rise of "gender dysphoric" adolescents--especially young girls--in clinics likely reflects this new cultural confusion.
The large majority of gender-dysphoric youths eventually outgrow their feelings of dysphoria during puberty, and many end up identifying as homosexual adults. "Affirmation" therapies, which insist a child's cross-sex identity should never be questioned, and puberty-blocking drugs, advertised as a way for children to "buy time" to sort out their identities, may only solidify feelings of dysphoria, setting them on a pathway to more invasive medical interventions and permanent infertility. This pathologizing of sex-atypical behavior is extremely worrying and regressive. It is similar to gay "conversion" therapy, except that it's now bodies instead of minds that are being converted to bring children into "proper" alignment with themselves.
The time for politeness on this issue has passed. Biologists and medical professionals need to stand up for the empirical reality of biological sex. When authoritative scientific institutions ignore or deny empirical fact in the name of social accommodation, it is an egregious betrayal to the scientific community they represent. It undermines public trust in science, and it is dangerously harmful to those most vulnerable.
Biologist Rob Joseph states it short and sweet in the comments:
As a biologist I find this whole argument of more than two genders to be patently absurd. You are a man or a woman period. If you're a male and want to identify as a woman then your gender is female and visa versa. Additionally, your sexual preference is not a gender.

A big part of me believes that the transgender wars in sports only exist to fuel the socialists real goals which is to make any sort of competition , so unfair, and so politicized, that the solution is to do away with it entirely.
To clarify things, Separate categories and awards need to be set up. If there aren’t sufficient numbers of transgenders in a competition than no award will be given, or you can compete in the division that matches your DNA.
Too simple for the bean counters I am sure, but the shooting sports handle this quite nicely. And women sometimes win. Not many of them, but they do win.
You are never going to eliminate all unfairness. The goal is to make a competition fair enough that competitors don’t determine that the game is rigged at the onset.

I don't think that's the socialists goal. I think their real goal is to make people say and pretend to believe something that the people know is a lie. That wears on a person.
But the socialists of old relished competition. Particularly if they thought they could win. Maybe the current crop are a bunch of soy boys and don't like competition.

And I'll be very surprised if they still have a job next week. And the spots on the leopard is also just a social construct, you science deniers!

Funny how there aren't any biological females who identify as men pushing to be allowed to compete as men. Also, although there have been several controversies surrounding biological boys who identify as girls wanting to shower with the girls in high school, I have yet to hear about any cases of the converse. Funny how these things seem to align so closely with the potential to gain an advantage or gain access that all one's cis-cohort also want.
As this whole chosen identity expands further, we probably won't have to worry about a man who identifies as a thoroughbred winning the Kentuck Derby.

This 32 genders fad is reinforcing the stereotypes of boys and girls. If a girl likes cars and math, she must really be a boy. If a boy likes tea parties and fashion, perhaps he's really a girl. So we call them transgender and foist hormone therapy on them. Why can' they just like the things they like?
We're not recognizing a new psychological identity, we enabling a neurosis - perhaps not the transgendered person's, but our own.

Transgenders were competing fairly in sports, even the Olympics, at least as far back as the 1930's. They competed as male or female based on their biological sex, regardless of sexual orientation or gender dysphoria, and followed the same rules as everyone else. They didn't make a dramatic display of their gender identity or sexual preferences - they probably would have been persecuted if they had - they just competed against the other athletes of the same sex, sometimes victoriously.
Today the 0.5% of the population that identifies as transgender is getting away with the fraud that male and female divisions in sports are based on gender identity. They're actually succeeding at making that true, but it wasn't true before.
Of course male and female divisions in sports are based on biological sex for the obvious reason that there are profound differences in size and strength between male and female bodies. Discrimination has nothing to do with it. That's the way it should be. Then any person with sufficient athletic ability and the willingness to follow the same rules as everyone else should be allowed to compete in the division consistent with their biological sex, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, point of view on Trump, or anything else that isn't about their athletic ability.
Yesterday I read about a gender-dysphoric male atlete who is going to try out for the Olympics women's track. To qualify to try out he had to identify as a woman and have a serum testosterone level less than 10 nanomoles per liter (288 nanograms per deciliter) for at least 12 months. That's about nine times higher than the mean testosterone level in adult women, and still within the reference range for healthy adult men.

Bw1 there are a few, actually, one in Texas comes to mind... a girl on testosterone wanted to wrestle the boys but they wouldn't let her and now she's on testosterone... but wrestling the girls. The girls aren't thrilled about that either.
Another thing you could do is give a handicap like in golf.

A big problem is at high school and below. A boy who says he is a girl at 16 or 17 has NOT had surgery. To let him shower with the girls is criminal. Many of the transgender still want to have sex with the opposite biological sex so are NOT harmless in the locker room. It is sick to pretend that there is no issue.

Did you know that the sex and gender typology being promoted actually derives from Human Rights law and treaties?
Look up the Yogyakarta Principles & SOGI. And you'll recognize the agenda by searching the same terms + CoE 2043 a/o CEDAW and Gender Identity.
This is all an ideological push to socially engineer a new definition of human sexuality that denies innate biological sex difference. It comes from a mix of Feminism and Queer theory. They think that by 'subverting heteronormativity' they can achieve some Utopian state of gender neutrality.
The primary target is actually kids, which is why you're seeing the celebration of Transgender children and the coordination of school programs nationally promoting non-binary 'genders' that have been adapted from sites like Tumblr.
The Transgender and Gender Dysphoria issues are likely just foils to implement policy changes and circumvent civil rights protections. Trans is already being expanded to encompass all 'queer' genders. So don't be surprised if heterosexuals are soon told they have to re-identify on the Trans spectrum.
