The "Woke" And Broken Left
There's something I observe happening -- and it recently happened to me (though I don't want to say where) -- and it's younger people with few accomplishments using cancel culture to keep accomplished people out of jobs and opportunities they have been selected for.
There are "purity" tests, and no one can pass them -- because if they say you have "questionable" views on certain subjects, what they say goes. There's no objecting. Objecting is seen as a sign that you are guilty.
Will this end or will it get worse?
More perspective on it:
Wokeness is against everything the liberal left historically stood for.

Cancel culture
Ideological self-segregation
Excommunicating instead of engaging
Identity fetishes
Shaming people into conformity
These are *right-wing religious conservative* behaviors.
Take back the left.
By the way, for anyone new reading here, I am neither left nor right but libertarian.

Rizvi looks pretty ignorant. No that is not right-wing religious conservative behavior. It is and has been left wing behavior for roughly 100 years now.
But what can I say? Pushing your distasteful values onto your political opponents has been a left wing practice for roughly 100 years as well.

What's the surprise given that the American Left is Maoist, and Maoism was the perfection of Communism as a Christian heresy accomplished by keeping original sin but eliminating forgiveness and redemption?
El Verde Loco at February 20, 2020 6:37 AM
More like 140 years, give or take. The Temperance Movement and women's suffrage were joined at the hip and very much progressive in nature.

"accomplished by keeping original sin but eliminating forgiveness and redemption?"
There is one other huge difference, in addition to that. In Christianity, original sin is universal; everyone is born with it. In leftism, original sin is not universal; it is allocated or not according to a person's immutable characteristics -- race, ethnicity, place of birth, sex and (according to the Left itself) sexual preference. However, it can also be allocated, ex post facto, if a person exhibits unorthodox beliefs.
Political movements in American history (aside from fringe groups like the Know-Nothings) have sought to be inclusionary, at least for citizens. Leftism is inherently an exclusionary philosophy; in that regard, it's pretty closely related to Gnosticism. The Left doesn't seem to realize (or maybe they just don't care) that their concept of original sin creates the equivalent of "holy rollers". People to whom original sin is ascribed look at the philosophy and say to themselves, "Why should I strive for salvation when there is no possibility of receiving it? Screw that."

"No that is not right-wing religious conservative behavior. "
I will say that it did exist in the South; it wasn't universal but it certainly existed. (Its leaders weren't really religious. They made a show of it, but we've all heard stories of fire-and-brimstone preachers being caught committing all kinds of lascivious acts.) It started fading in the 1950s, but it was a gradual process and definitely not a linear one; there was progress alternating with setbacks. But, although it isn't totally gone today, it no longer has any political clout.
It was never the complete system that Leftism is. It did manage to hold sway over some small communities. But it was never as widely accepted (especially among young people) as Leftism is today.
Cousin Dave at February 20, 2020 7:47 AM
Then Rizvi needed to be more specific. If he had pointed out specific areas like you did Cousin Dave I doubt I would object. I agree there were religious groups that did similar things.
I will note the 1960s is when the south started to turn red. Prior to 1950 it wasn't right wing religious conservatives but left wing religious groups.
None of that claims there aren't problems with right wing groups (both past and today). I just say crucify people for their own sins, not ones you make up. I'm being all autistic and complaining about proper classification and binning!

Oh, it will definitely get worse.
The self-consuming "Terror" is coming.
Get your popcorn and enjoy!
Jay R at February 20, 2020 11:34 AM
I don't know that popcorn is appropriate. The problem with such terrors is that they're indiscriminate and can spread quickly to other people.

Millennials right now are the most important part of the economically active population. So better brace for at least another ten years of social justice bullshit.
Sixclaws at February 20, 2020 3:29 PM
"o better brace for at least another ten years of social justice bullshit."
I'm not so sure. I've read this week that the last decade's growth in the major urban areas has reversed, and the trend has gone back to what it has been for most of the time since the 1970s: the growth is in the suburbs. Millennials are like every other generation in that once they have a good income, and have or want kids, they start to realize that you can't spend your entire life living in adult Disneyland. America's blue cities are seeing a return to 1970s crime and decay, and they don't seem to be interested in doing anything about housing or transportation availability -- things that people who work for a living care about.
Cousin Dave at February 21, 2020 7:01 AM
Millenials also lie a lot. You can't really trust what most of us say. We don't believe you won't use our words against us. So you need to look at actions instead of words to get at anything real.
Ben at February 21, 2020 7:57 AM
Cousin Dave, I recently heard a story about cities that have experimented with free public transportation.

47 minutes, FWIW.
