Anyone running against her, either in the primary or general election needs to put this into their advertising.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has lashed out at Republicans because the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill does not include direct payments to taxpayers without a Social Security number, including people living in the U.S. illegally.
Nope. Some deals come at too high a cost. At some point, it'll become a crime to not have your cell phone with you. But it's for the children!!
If we get to that point, one's civil liberties will be a half forgotten memory.

Huge, if true.
Lockdown in Hubei was lifted 2 days ago and people wanted to go back to work in Jiangxi. Jiangxi police would not let them in. People from Hubei got mad.
Jiangxi police invaded Hubei police jurisdiction, causing fights between the police.
Over the past two weeks, hundreds of movie theaters in the country had begun to reopen. No reason for the policy reversal was given, but insiders believe the government is worried about a potential second wave of coronavirus infections.
Before everyone was locked down and at home, I frequently caught hell for not carrying my cell phone. I never saw the point or desire to be constantly connected. But then I'm not a teen. When I retired for the last and final time, I lost the tie, the lab coat, the security pass and the company cell phone. I should have ditched all that years earlier. I still have a cell, but it lives in the car.

Crazy how this twitter thread is very civilized.
Had this were in English it would have been littered with idiots screeching that these tests are invalid because the sample wasn't done with 10,000 patients over the course of ten years with not one but Two papers published in Nature Magazine.
And even then the research is invalid because they would rather see the people choke on their own fluids because Orange Man Bad.
Might want to start/keep a list of US universities that are in bed with the ChiComs. One more thing to clean up after Xi's Disease calms down.
One of the photos showed a chalking on a sidewalk just across the street from a 7-Eleven that read, "It's from China #ChineseVirus." The second photo showed a chalking that read "Fuck the Chinese Government."
"The Asian American Studies Program denounce these anti-China and anti-Chinese acts found on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on March 24, 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has no nationality or race. We stand with the world in compassion and kindness for those affected, as we adhere to the Safer at Home directive," the Facebook post read.
Sunstein didn't merely change his mind in response to events. He told people four weeks ago that if they held the view he now holds, they had a brain defect. He and others rationalized a delayed response that now forces the wrenching shutdown.
Answer: of course not. If it weren't for double standards...

This is what we might call Ben's 'Dang' Effect:
The only explanation is that back on the savanna telling a guy running from a tiger that he was suffering from cognitive bias must have conferred some survival advantage, though for the life of me I can't figure out how.

I was thinking about that last night, and there was one from the airport two days before.
But we don't have baseline data. China has nearly the same square footage as the United States: It's huge, with four times as many people. We have no idea how many bridge (and airport) riots happen to China in a typical month.
Presumably we'll see more clips reaching us through their filters during this crisis, but it will be difficult to decode the patterns. And I think you should be *deeply* suspicious of any data they offer about their infection numbers.
But you are right to be looking for this kind of disruption!
I think the Chinese, like the Russians after their own revolutions, are more afraid of disorder than of submission. Three weeks ago I thought this thing could be a mortal blow to Xi's regime and the Party's centralized control. But no, he seems firmly in control as this month of misery births another. That doesn't happen because citizens resent being corralled: it happens because their culture likes it.
The Chinese culture raises citizens in sexless, stifled conformity: Orion/Artemis — oblivious & smug — is what we're up against.

In theory, one can also get a different set of comments at Comics Kingdom, but I can't seem to see them on this IPad - unless I subscribe, which I refuse to do.
If anyone can get a few juicy comments from there and post them here, I'll be very grateful.

An interesting article on a Naval War College war-game on epidemic response that was played just before COVID-19.
Excerpts:
Some key findings were that nongovernmental organizations were willing to accept higher risk for their personnel than military commands and that local government and local authorities remained the primary agents for a successful response.
Another finding focused on disagreement about the realities of quarantine. While some players viewed forced mass quarantine as an obvious political reality, many medical professionals said that it could drive the infected underground and actually spread the disease faster.

The average Chinese person has been subjected to absolute rule in one form or another for most of their written history. They don't have a culture of I'm a free person and I will not stand for usurpation of that freedom. Keeping one's head down and remaining unnoticed is a survival strategy. Standing out from the crowd gets you marked for increased scrutiny, and eventual removal.
I have some hope for that the Konger's might be able to free themselves from the CCP. They have had a whiff of freedom over the last century.
The CCP is simply another dynasty. Eventually they will fall, to replaced by a new dynasty. I expect Xi to "retire" sooner than might otherwise have happened, unless the CCP realizes an unexpected benefit.
I presume this crisis has drained whatever inertia was happening with the HK protesters, the ones who sang our national anthem.

Transfer of power is always an issue for those types of government. Say Xi is strong enough to keep control till he dies of natural causes. (Not a good bet, but just for argument.) Then comes the inevitable scramble for power among those still alive. Do you end up like the USSR with a line of geriatrics ruling for a year or two because Xi liked them? Civil war as competing factions fight for control?
Crid at March 28, 2020 12:50 AM
So then the question becomes: For this crisis, do you want to be tracked?
