Too good not to share. There is a column called “Ask Sonny Anything” in a free e magazine called Bluegrass Today. Sonny, being Sonny Osborne, a famous banjo picker of the Osborne Brothers.
Anyway, in this recent column Sonny was asked about his worst gigs ever.
This was the third one.
Presque Isle, Maine – Summertime 1968. Bobby, Dale Sledd, Ronnie Reno, and I (that’s me of course, how else would I know…DUH). We go on stage at the fairgrounds with over 5000 people in the bleachers. By our 3rd or 4th song the large, unhappy crowd had thinned down considerably. They left in droves of 20-50 each…’twas a mass exodus. There might have been 200-300 diehards remaining. Man, we didn’t even want to look at one another. Embarrassed, there must be another word, I know what that word is too, but it is not appropriate in mixed company. We felt better after I went to the office and collected our dough. I found out they had advertised us as The Osmond Brothers. I can just hear the conversation between a couple old ladies…”Which one is Marie?”

If a certain very good friend of mine had told me about this, I would have told him he was joking - as usual.

Oh, yes - I stumbled on it in a....Catholic website!
https://cal-catholic.com/anything-to-stop-babies-from-coming/
The commentators all bitterly condemn men who don't want children as "Peter Pans."
From Dana (in 2014):
"...I've often pondered at what happened to the men who are now in their sixties and seventies and like you, I’ve often connected it to the death of President Kennedy, but then I remember what little whiny weenies they were in grade school…so unlike my older brother’s age group who took on so much responsibility at so young an age. Actually, my brother totally agrees with us Linda Marie. It’s a mystery!! I blame the inadequacy of these men for the woman’s movement..."

• Karen vs. The United States of America.
• The kids would probably describe this man as 'a complicated identity' or something like that.

Y'know, it's funny…
> I blame the inadequacy of these
> men for the woman’s movement...
I blame the insanity of these women on the women's movement.
Listen, throughout history, women have had privileges and protections that men didn't have. Those protections were uneven and uncertain, as were the blessings they'd presume to have been guaranteed to men. It's tough being human, whichever your gender.
So the feminism comes around, but a lot of people are selfish and stupid, and so an enormous number of women can't tell the difference between feminism and femininity. So when when this little Catholic schoolgirl hears that women globally are making strides toward social achievement and economic improvement, she concludes that civilization is all about her own personal needs… And that a Righteous God in Heaven understands that she's the purpose of His Universe. It's time to crank up her little-girl nature! After all, this is happening in *her* own generation! So her magnificence must be what's summoned all this change into the world!
Therefore— Any man, however unsuitable to her personally as a mate, should churn and toil in pursuit of her affection and fidelity; such men exist only to plump up the competitive marketplace for her marital selection.
So she marries, drops the idiot screeching babies biology would compel her to make no matter who she was, and gets on with the business of her vindictive, incompetent little life… With the church cranking up all of her drooping family's resentments every week at Mass.
And then, in her late thirties or forties, when her kids didn't turn out so great and her husband's been checked out for decades, she FINALLY feels some kind of sexual impulse for her own sake. But she doesn't know the language of such things… And her husband, henpecked, distracted, and long defeated by submission to her infinite neediness, has been banging that sales associate from work for fifteen years anyway, the one with the tits, and has no interest. (In the privacy of Confessional booth, Father Roditore has been remarkably understanding. For many years.)
So she looks at the world and sees that enormous numbers of people have been traveling, associating freely with others (sexually and otherwise), happily collecting ideas and friendships from around the world without worrying whether Bobby is going to be thrown out of Junior High for vandalizing school property after the big game last weekend.
So she mumbles something about Kennedy (world events! history! etc.) and says her problem is caused by the 'inadequacy' of those who don't agree that her mundane needs are the concentric center of the Almighty's Creation.
To hear this from her is perhaps not as wounding as she intends.

On this very special Memorial Day, we're all feeling especially grateful for lives previously untroubled by infestation and pathogens.
But after seeing that footage, I'm all like Nuke it from space.
I've had that feeling about many sources of wretched illness lately.
