"A point I’ve been making over and over this year is that these liberal cities need to feel the pain of electing childish leftists. When your police chief is imploring your mayor to not proceed down a path of lawless madness and the mayor is ignoring her, it’s time for the idiots who voted for that mayor to wallow in some harsh reality and consequences for a while."
There are pros and cons to taking that path.
PROS
leaving those cities to burn will provide a tangible and lasting example of the inadequacy of complete anarchy as a socio-economic system
the smug satisfaction of "I told you so."
tangible proof of the need for police agencies and social order
CONS
the cost of rebuilding those burned out cities will be borne by the rest of us, even if financed privately
abandoning those cities to the lawless elements will alienate the residents and that alienation will tear at the fabric of a once-united country
abandoning the police of those cities will affect the future working relationship of federal law enforcement with local law enforcement - detrimental to the safety of the citizens
feelings of alienation and resentment growing in an entire region of the country

Another potential con to letting Portland and Seattle burn is what will take over when the police have been neutralized. Anarchy does not breed freedom, it breeds warlords and sectional strife.

Your united country bullet point has already happened. We don't share a culture. We don't share values. At least that is how the under 40 crowd views things. Same for the alienation and resentment. It is already there. Same for the warlords. That is what the CHAZ was.

Another problem with letting them burn is that the liberal elitists who aren't actually out there rioting are going to start moving to Texas, Florida, Colorado, etc and ruining things there. (Yeah, it's happening anyway, but it'll happen at a faster rate.)
I can't believe that their police forces haven't gone on strike yet.

For the big cities the cops who would go on strike have already been pushed out of the police force by now. While not usually this violent these types of protests aren't unusual for Portland and similar cities. Instead it is more of an annual event.
I did hear about one small town where the local library publicly expressed their support for BLM. The police chief then had a press conference where he expressed understanding and support for the library. And in the spirit of that support his officers would do as the library was requesting and no longer answer any calls the library made. People looking at porn or doing drugs there were now the library staff's problem as the library had expressed the view that the police were not wanted. The library tried to half walk back their statements and expressed their outrage the police would blackmail them like this. So the chief half walked back his statements while making it clear he really wasn't.
So it really depends on where you live.

This treads on the whole concept of "innocent civilian".
We have a representative democratic republic in which the public definitely refuses to rule, as is provided in founding documents. So, nature abhors a vacuum, and the job of ruling has been filled by those eager to do it.
They do not have the same goals you do.
You could have insisted on substantive schooling. You could have insisted on monitoring public expenses of all kinds.
You didn't, and so entitlements have raised persons who aged without becoming adults. They are unhappy because you do not give them enough, and they see nothing wrong with beating you and burning your possessions until you do. They also have no problem with lying about what they've done.
They also vote for whomever promises them free stuff, as you sit back, again, and do nothing.
That you might not know what to do does not change that you do nothing.
Yes, some people are despicable, and they are not going to change unless they are FORCED, and they will teach offspring to be just like them until you can demonstrate conclusively that tantrums are not permitted, achievement and education is.
You might have to kill somebody in your lifetime. Maybe not, but you'd better be ready. "Not" would be lots better, but as a member of the public you may have used up all of your apathy, and you will have to use something else.
Yeah, that's gonna be unpleasant. Ask the people whose shit is on fire right now.

it breeds warlords and sectional strife
Already has, see Minneapolis. Some neighborhoods have set up their own watch, at least one is putting barricades, and more than a few are armed.
As Instapudit put it: communities were policing themselves well before police came into being. They tend to be short on respecting the rights of the suspects and long on respecting the rights of the community.
Putting policing in the hands of a more neutral 3rd party was an acceptable compromise, with a trend towards respecting rights all around, and letting the courts and juries hash out truth and punishment at a later date.

Tennessee state senator Katrina Robinson (D) was slapped with a 48-count indictment for theft, embezzlement and wire fraud.
Apparently the vocational school she founded was sucking up government funding which was used for her lifestyle expenses.
Democrats are reminding the voters that she's innocent until proven guilty.
