Foreign students have long been required to take a "full course of study" to fulfill visa requirements. The longstanding rule is that a study may take only one online class per semester as part of the full course of study. ICE *may* allow a student to take more than one online course, but any additional course must be taken in the physical presence of a university employee. Just to be a smart ass, I looked up "raman." Turns out it's a thing. Indian physicist, C. V. Raman, developed a spectographic technique that is named after him, as is the resulting shift.

Meanwhile, the dean of Yale Law School, who should certainly know better, writes as if requiring in-person classes for foreign students is some novel assault on the academy, rather than a longstanding regulation, to wit, "The policy is also flatly inconsistent with the core tenets of academic institutions. Well, if knowledge knows no borders and these students will be taking their classes entirely online, why does them being physically here in the US matter so much to the university? Can they not be taught online in their home country?
