Corruptocracies, whether in city govt (like in LA), or nationally, are not to be shrugged off. Those in US are voted into existence. Others elsewhere are not.

Stupidity, apathy and selfishness line up to have their turn at killing us.
Remember when we thought religious fundmentalists in government were going to kill us all?

Many of the protesters seem to want to get rid of government (e.g., defund movement). Well, that is what you have in Beirut--not a very functional government. When gov is fragmented and nonfunctional, there is no one to deal with 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate right next to a fireworks factory. This exact kind of accident happened in Texas about 70 yrs ago--ammonium nitrate on a ship blew and over 500 were killed. So it is not like the possibility is unknown. This was also the explosive used by McVeigh in OK city.

I’m pretty sure the only reason the stuff was in the port to begin with was because of some quasi legal government extortion where they impounded a Russia ship. (From what I have read)

Where collectivists rule, the lives of individuals no longer matter. What matters is the good of "the people." And "the people" morph into "the state" where the only thing that matters is what a government official can get for himself while pretending to look out for the common good.
Welcome to Venezuela. Welcome to Lebanon. Welcome to the US if the "defund the police" collectivists ever get control.
