Luke Ford has a podcast with Greg Cochran, who notes that women with opportunities for professional fulfillment are almost by definition the smarter ones; and that working women have fewer kids. And intelligence is highly heritable. Therefore he speculates (seat of pants) that Western cultures are losing about one IQ point per generation, not even considering immigration, etc.
We're getting dimmer.
A mitigating factor is that nutrition has been getting better, so who knows what the final math would look like.

Anyone else notice that the presidential campaign ads are not "vote for X because he's", but "vote for X because he's not Y?"
Neither of the campaings seem to be able to articulate a reason to vote for their guy that doesn't involve saying he's not the other guy.
Can somebody tell me why I should vote for Joe Biden without referencing Trump? And vice versa?

Joey Butterfingers is unlikely to sniff your hair, Conan. Trump the same.
Don't know if that's a selling point or not. TBH, a vote for Joey is a vote for Kamala as president.
If you want California's energy regime taken nationwide, vote for Joey and his version of the Green Nude Eel, Green New Deal.

Because Biden is the refreshing morning cocktail of cheap vodka and diet orange soda this country needs so badly.

Vote for Trump, because you like the Second Amendment, He isn’t in the pocket of China, you think we need to halt unchecked illegal immigration, and because, apparently Ginsburg is going to last long enough to be replaced in 2021.

That kind of mistakes are pretty common when it comes to building public infrastructures. That's how they end up blowing up the budget by several billions and they're mysteriously finished when the people in charge of the project are done building a cozy retirement fund.

Dafuq? When he's so nakedly submissive to their predations, how could you say so? Was anything more conducive to the expansion of global Chinese power than his cancellation of the TPP? Kaplan calls it "The greatest self-inflicted wound in American foreign policy in several decades." In exactly which realms of national enterprise has he been resistant to their malignancy? In what context, even in this horrific year with so many choices, has Trump held the Chinese to account for their perfidies?
"isn't in the pocket of China"?? He's fucking Neville Chamberlain. He admires strongman politics as only a vain & unread game show host could.
I can't imagine how you could say such a thing.

As far as the TPP is concerned, I am sure Obama and his henchmen collected lots of bribes for getting it to the point of ratification.
There is nothing that the Obama administration did that wasn’t a result of naked self interest and greed.
The American worker or small business owner isn’t even on the visible horizon of today’s Democratic Party.
These seems to be a lot of evidence that the now defunct Iran deal was nothing more than a ploy to funnel bribes back to major politicos. Some, I might add, actually in the Republican Party, but mostly Obama and Kerry and that ilk.
Crid do you see anything going on in Americans cities right now, as worthy of putting the Democrats back in charge?
Any state where they actually run some kind of legitimate fiscally responsible government with decent crime stats?
Because that is your real binary choice. Not some pie in the sky libertarian picking up one percent of the popular vote.
The Republicans may be stupid, but on the other hand the democrats have exposed themselves as organized crime. The Mafia without adult leadership.
Isab at August 16, 2020 2:13 PM
Isab, this is not sane, and you're not even pretending to affirm the point you made. The world isn't binary until the simpleminded demand that it be, and your insistence is blind and howling.
Trump is worse than in Xi's pocket.
Dems are waking up to China.
Trump voters continue their slumber.
