I've heard the same thing, but the bar was pretty low by now. So far, he's been shielded from hard questions, ad hoc encounters, and anything not scripted.

And with the near-constant play the Trump campaign has given to Biden's mental decline, Biden didn't have to do much more than get his name right and read the cue cards for most Trump-resistant right-leaning voters to see him as better than the drooling, senile vegetable the right-wing blogosphere contends he has become or is becoming.

The basement strategy seems to be working, for now. Letting Trump suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune while lying low has kept Biden mis-steps to a minimum while Biden surrogates hammer Trump on his own mis-steps. The news cycle has only Trump to chew on, so he's taking all the hits.

The debates will be telling. If Biden can stand up to what I believe will be Trump's attempts to run him in circles and highlight Biden's confusion, he may yet win this thing.

I still say he won't finish his term if elected. He's a stalking horse for the radical left wing of the Democratic Party. Steny Hoyer did the same thing in the Democrats' 2006 and 2018 takeovers of the House - run Democratic candidates as centrists to reassure he independent and undecided voters that radicals are not taking over. Then, when elected, unleash the radicals.
