Y'know, fat people suffering disproportionately from Covid might explain why the USA has been so horribly afflicted by this thing.
And you might expect numbers with decisive evidence for or against this idea to be readily at hand.
But 2020 has taught that statistical science isn't the readily-deployed and quick-harvesting mechanism for truth collection that some of us had thought it was.
Crid at August 29, 2020 12:32 AM
Crid, the US hasn't been disproportionately affected by covid. When you compare similarly sized geographic areas most of the US has done better than most european nations. Once you look at actual trends you find the New York area is a major failure point. Cuomo forcing nursing homes to take known infected patients was a significant cause of death in the area. There were other major missteps. The second big trend is black people. Someone started the rumor that black people couldn't get covid. So in poorly run cities (i.e. corrupt ones) with a high AA population you saw major outbreaks. That then lead to higher deaths, mainly in nursing homes.
As for obesity, the major link appears to really be diabetes. Covid-19 often causes blood sugar regulation problems. For healthy people this makes them hungry and sleepy for a week or so. Annoying but not life threatening. For people with compromised sugar regulation systems this is life threatening. For those injecting with insulin this is extremely dangerous.

I had my first death from COVID of a close friend this month. He was a retired army doctor still working in the private sector. A surgeon. Yea, he was a bit chunky. And dark skinned. An Italian American with an olive complexion. 68 years old. He knew the risks. 19 days on a respirator, and gone. I feel terrible about it. If anyone deserved more years on this earth, he did.
We always knew the best argument for voting for Trump was that he would be restrained by the courts, congress, and the constitution. The democrats never have been. Their one way ratchet towards destroying the rule of law cranks onward.
That argument still stands. I don’t find it a difficult choice at all.

"We always knew"?
Your praise for Trump the Man has been reflexive, full-throated, and resolute. Your arguments for Trump have been FAR from "the best."
In this context, one in particular comes to mind: "I'm quite satisfied with the response of this administration to the Corona virus."

Understanding the Constitution the way I do, separation of powers, and the 10th amendment, I stand by my assessment.
What do you think Trump should have done that he didn’t do? No crystal balls here, where you go back to March and lie about what the current state of our understanding of COVID was at that time.
They aren’t going to stop the spread, The best they can do is delay it, with the hope of developing more effective treatment. This seems to have happened. Thought at the beginning that an effective vaccine was a pipe dream. Still think that.
Quite happy with the policies of this administration compared to what I know will be the alternative (having seen it before in the Obama administration).
The looting under a Democratic administration won’t just be in the cities, it will extend to my retirement funds, and my guns, Especially if they can get control of the Senate.
A vote for the dems is a vote for impending civil war, sooner, rather than later.
Love you dearly Crid, but in my suspect opinion, you have either lost your mind on the subject of Trump, or you are just basically trolling this topic. Can’t decide which.
Isab at August 29, 2020 9:34 AM
Obesity, diabetes, and hypertension are some of the biggest risk factors for Covid. They're also overwhelmingly more common in minorities. Interesting coincidence.

Rebellion at Sandia Labs. I guess many there are not happy with the idea some politician will put his daughter/wife/girlfriend/ or mistress in charge of running a lab filled with radioactive material.

Your opinion is indeed suspect: No matter how obvious his incompetence and self-interest, no matter how shallow his understanding of the world around him and the powers of his office, no matter how grievous the atrocities of the surrounding culture and how desperate its need for American executive participation, anyone who doesn't love him (DONALD TRUMP) must have 'lost their mind on the subject of Trump.'
Your faith & adoration are religious, therefore beyond countermand. (Christians are no fun to argue with, either. Also Muslims and Scientologists, though faithful Jews will at least make you look forward to the next lunch.)
No one's saying why Robert died, though law compels authorities to record a cause of death. Care to speculate?
On the 19th he was busy. But at the end of the 18th day, your friend was probably not quite satisfied.

I’m an agnostic that leans atheist. When someone give me a binary choice, I vote my self interest.
I don’t get all high and mightily about it because politics, and democracy itself is a very dirty business. The electoral college means you can insulate yourself somewhat from your choices.
But I’m not the one playing Mother Teresa’s here.
Trump’s going to win Indiana, and he probably doesn’t need you to do it.
I can agree with you on the many many personal flaws of Donald Trump, but what is the point? It’s an academic argument and not particularly germane to this election. These arguments about character about moral fitness need to be made in the primaries.
The Democratic Party has been captured by the radical left. Joe Biden is a sock puppet for a group of Anarchists, Socialists and morons that are clones of Artemis.
Nothing but a Mondale like drubbing in the electoral college (and probably not even that) is going to derail the Democratic party’s Suicide Express to socialism.
There will be no reset.
I’m just hoping that I can keep my head down when the shooting starts.

No one's giving you that kind of choice, and it's cloyingly submissive to pretend they are.
> he probably doesn’t need
> you to do it.
So, it's sports, right? You wanna support the winning team.
Trump's failure as a human being couldn't be more "germane."

Yea. It’s the gladiatorial games, and in this case the losers are in serious danger of execution.
I certainly can’t be as glib as you are about the dems destroying the filibuster, and packing the courts.
