Linksurdity, LA-Style
Phew! So glad the LA City Council has solved the massive homeless crisis here and was able to move on to what they were all elected for: Taking meaningless action about Middle East political issues. https://t.co/g2MJYaFNc3

They're not going to send anyone home just because tax revenue is in the toilet.

Too many governments aim to be the government one or two levels up. The city government wants to run the county, or the state. The state government wants to run the country.
LA is a large enough city that it thinks it is the state and wants to run the country, wants to have its own foreign policy. If LA doesn't want to deal with Israel, let them. Let them forego the computer software developed there. Let them forego the drugs developed in Israeli labs. Let them forego anything developed in Israel.
Here is a list of things LA should avoid going forward.

If there's a more abjectly sinister & duplicitous personality in American political life than Kamala Harris, I can't imagine who it is.
Her future is not merely bright. She is ascendant.
I'd just like to thank the Trump voters for setting our nation on this path to comity and affluence!
The scope of your understanding of the interests of others, your exquisite nuance in public discourse, your chess-like comprehension of political moves and counterstrokes... It's all gelled in this magnificent fourth year of OrangeDork's presidency. He's used every hour of every day to press his team to make enduring improvements to the commonweal.
Good going.
Crid at August 12, 2020 7:24 AM
Heh. Now Kamala Harris is Trump's fault! If only the Orange Man wasn't so Bad™, we wouldn't have to put up with obvious filth running for office!
Medication, therapy... I dunno what to recommend you.
Say THIS out loud: "Donald Trump is the result of government policy, not the cause."
The sooner you admit that you (we) have a problem because we let others run the show, the better off you (we) are gonna be.

Actually a good resolution, but I agree with Conan on local govs wanting to do diplomacy. Rather meaningless but feel-good, like churches with a "no-nukes" sign--ok, I'll leave my nukes at home when I go to church.

You might enjoy this one, Patrick, with your love of the Coneheads and their twisted descriptions of sandwiches:
I received an email today about a work-at-home opportunity? This one promised me an exciting position in the logistics and packaging field as a Package Manager.
And for compensation? "The sum of dollars you shall be obtaining rely upon on the quantum of batches you shall be treating." I gotta tell ya, I can't wait to treat my first quantum of batches so I can obtain a sum of dollars.

I'm sure the council is paying attention to the 'likes' and little else, a la Ben & Jerry's Woke Dessert Factory and Scolding Academy.

> I dunno what to recommend
We know... The Trump voter is not about foresight, composing a better future, or building alliances to fill mutual needs. The Trump voter is about congestive bitterness, holding one's breath until one turns blue, and a featureless, Scientology-style loyalty to a mundane huckster.
Trump has no conception of America's future beyond sending his next tweet, and his voters you have no aspirations for the future beyond reading it.

It is a sadly limited intelligence that imagines that a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and/or Pinterest account makes one important.
Those are hobbies, not accomplishments.
Radwaste at August 12, 2020 5:39 PM
You should tell the guy you voted for.
Crid at August 12, 2020 9:36 PM
Crid, as you've probably heard by now, many black voters are deeply disappointed with the choice of Kamala Harris, given her record. BUT, had Biden chosen, say, Elizabeth Warren, it would have been too easy for the GOP to whip Republicans and fence-sitters into a panic by convincing them that Democrats were heading toward the radical left. The GOP can't do that so easily with Harris.
So, maybe he made the right choice.
